We enjoyed the property. Our room was VERY spacious, especially by Japan standards, well appointed, and super quiet!! The hotel lobby etc are very nice as well. The bar/lounge is great!! The drawbacks are that there are alot of tour buses with large groups coming in and out, the restaurant is not that great (we are breakfast every morning at the Royal Host across the street), and I probably would've booked something a little closer to Gion District etc. The taxi ride was only $10 each way, but we found ourselves heading over that way every day and would've made life much easier to just walk over.

Not a great stay. Staff will smile and say hello but only a few of them are actually helpful. They didn’t have great service at the desk or at the restaurant. Also, the AC wasn’t working in our room and they did not care or try to help. Super uncomfortable because of that, but you get what you pay for.

Extremely dated hotel, photos do not match description nor what is portrayed on booking site. Staff are rude and unhelpful. Worse still, racist against asians while favouring westerners instead. Avoid at all costs.

Clean, spacious rooms, friendly and helpful staff. I am surprised in other reviews people say it’s outdated, our room was very much updated, clean and fresh. I guess some people find traditional style dated? Great breakfast, 5 min ride on free shuttle bus to Kyoto station.

The property was very nice. The staff was also incredibly friendly and gracious. They have a shuttle bus to and from Kyoto Station, which is handy. The only downside to me was the lack of close public transportation options. It would’ve been nice to be a little closer walking distance to a train station or a bus stop.

It’s a rare hotel in Japan that can offer 4 twin beds for 4 friends to travel and room together. The toiletries were top notch, beyond what I have seen at other 4 star hotels; and the housekeeping staff did not skimp during our 3 day stay. I especially enjoyed the comfort of their free house slippers. The hotel staff at check in was helpful and spoke English, and gave orientation to room features. The concierge service helped point out local cherry blossom lightings and rates of local blooms. They also helped with locating local drugstores. They also helped with hotel luggage transfers. The staff was super helpful in getting taxis at last minute from hotel. Only, downside was the “French” restaurant of western foods was not very authentic. Also, that all restaurants close early in evening.

A great hotel with clean and comfortable accomodations as well as an incredibly helpful and friendly staff. If you are travelling within Kyoto, you may need to walk for a bit before you get to the local metro lines, but if you're instead going to be traveling through Kyoto Station then there is a free shuttle that travels to and from the station and hotel at regular intervals.

I dont like items added that were not part of a whole. When i booked the trip, nothing was mentioned or read about paying a local Kyoto tax which i thought was outrageous. I pointed it out why it wasn't part of the payment nor was it mentioned on the receipt at the time of booking. I asked why wasn't it in my booking from Hotels.com and was told well they wouldn't know about it. Like are you serious!!!!!! Usually it will tell you, what you may still owe, at the end of your stay. I don't like unexpalined last minute payments because the Hotel isn't forthcoming with it's own booking agents. I would not recommend the hotel based just on that.

We booked this hotel specifically because it advertised a crib for babies. Then when we called to confirm we had a crib secured with the room they asked how old the baby was, he is 13 months they said no crib for babies older than 12 months. They refused to provide a crib. So we had to lug our portable crib with us from Tokyo. We would have booked a hotel in a better area if we had to bring the crib anyways. That was a huge disappointment. The location was ok. Beds and pillows super uncomfortable. The rooms could use updating.
