We need a place for a short rest/a night before heading north (our final stop is Gerik). The location is great! There is a hawker stall next to it, so we don't have to be worried of it. Besides, they do sell some snacks, water, hot cup at the counter, so no need to drive to a convenient stall to get them. The water heater functions really well. Bed, toilet, everything is clean. Overall, this budget hotel exceeded my expectation.

Friendly staff, clean room, clean space, and very easy to get food as the hotel is situated in a commercial area with shops, convenience stores, and a hypermarket store. Top Things to Do Near Your Ipoh Hotel

Explore Concubine Lane & the Old Town Heritage Trail

Concubine Lane, or Lorong Panglima, is a narrow alley in the heart of Ipoh Old Town that has become one of the city's most photographed spots. Lined with quaint shops, cafes, and souvenir stalls, this heritage lane offers a glimpse into Ipoh's colourful past. The surrounding streets are dotted with stunning murals and street art created by local and international artists, rivalling those found in Penang. A self-guided walking tour of the old town is one of the best free activities in Ipoh and takes approximately two to three hours to complete.

Visit the Magnificent Cave Temples

Ipoh is surrounded by dramatic limestone hills, and several of these house spectacular cave temples that are well worth visiting. Sam Poh Tong Temple is one of the most beautiful, featuring a serene garden and pond within the cave. Kek Lok Tong Temple offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside from its rear garden. Perak Tong Temple houses over 40 Buddha statues and features a steep staircase leading to a hilltop viewpoint. These cave temples are generally free to enter, though donations are welcome, and they provide a spiritual and scenic experience that is unique to the Ipoh region.

Taste the Famous Ipoh White Coffee

No trip to Ipoh is complete without sampling the city's world-famous white coffee. Unlike regular coffee, Ipoh white coffee is roasted with palm oil margarine, giving it a distinctively smooth and fragrant flavour. The most iconic spots to enjoy this beverage include the original Oldtown White Coffee shop, Nam Heong Coffee Shop, and Sin Yoon Loong. Many Singaporean visitors make it a point to stock up on packets of Ipoh white coffee to bring home as gifts. Pair your coffee with the equally famous Ipoh sar hor fun, a silky flat rice noodle dish that is a must-try.

Discover Ipoh's Street Art Scene

Ipoh has developed a vibrant street art culture, with murals adorning walls throughout the old town. Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic, who also created famous murals in Penang, has contributed several pieces to Ipoh's urban art landscape. The murals often depict scenes from local daily life and history, creating wonderful photo opportunities around every corner. A street art trail map is available at most hotels and tourist information centres.

Getting to Ipoh from Singapore

Singaporean travellers have several options for reaching Ipoh. The most popular route is by car, taking the North-South Expressway via Kuala Lumpur. The drive takes approximately five hours from the Singapore-Johor border and is a straightforward, well-maintained highway journey. Alternatively, you can fly from Singapore Changi Airport to Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh, with flight times of around 90 minutes. Buses from Singapore to Ipoh are also available and typically take six to seven hours, offering an economical option for budget-conscious travellers. If driving, many hotel ipoh properties offer complimentary parking, which is a significant advantage over city-centre hotels in larger Malaysian cities.

Best Food to Try in Ipoh

Ipoh is arguably one of the best food cities in Malaysia, and Singaporean foodies will be in heaven. Beyond the famous white coffee and sar hor fun, be sure to try the bean sprout chicken, where plump bean sprouts and tender poached chicken are served with fragrant rice. Ipoh's dim sum scene is also exceptional, with restaurants like Foh San Dim Sum and Ming Court Hong Kong Dim Sum drawing crowds every morning. Other local delicacies include curry mee, salt-baked chicken, and the refreshing ais kacang. The affordability of dining in Ipoh is a major draw for Singaporean travellers, with hearty meals costing a fraction of what they would in Singapore.
