A comfortable 6-day stay in Ipoh. I stayed at Seemsoon Hotel Ipoh for 6 days, and overall, it was a comfortable and pleasant stay. The room was simple, practical, and reasonably spacious, with a warm and slightly classic hotel feel. I liked the wooden furnishings and the overall layout, as there was enough space to keep my belongings without making the room feel too crowded. The bed was comfortable enough for a longer stay, and the room was a good place to come back to and rest after being out during the day. Since I stayed for several days, I also had the chance to experience the hotel beyond just a one-night visit. What I appreciated was that the room remained practical for everyday use — there was a proper work/desk area, tea and coffee facilities, a mini fridge, and sufficient storage space. The hotel is also conveniently located for getting around Ipoh, making it suitable for both short visits and longer stays. It is not the kind of hotel that tries to impress with an overly modern or luxurious concept, but rather a straightforward hotel that provides the essentials for a comfortable stay. For a 6-day stay, I found that practicality and comfort mattered more, and Seemsoon Hotel served that purpose well. Overall, I had a good experience and would consider staying here again when I am back in Ipoh. A comfortable, uncomplicated stay with good overall value.

Affordable price with great facilities! The hotel was very clean and tidy, and it’s really close to the activities and attractions in the city center, so you can easily explore the area on foot. I honestly didn’t expect the hotel to be this spacious at such an affordable price. Definitely coming back when I’m in Ipoh again—highly recommended! They also have smart parking, which is a great plus.

Nice entertainment system. Since we own a Hisense TV at home, it was super easy to operate. Comfortable bed. Either no one is around us or the soundproof is incredible! Amenities are adequate. Clean room and bathroom. Great shower and bathtub.

We need a place for a short rest/a night before heading north (our final stop is Gerik). The location is great! There is a hawker stall next to it, so we don't have to be worried of it. Besides, they do sell some snacks, water, hot cup at the counter, so no need to drive to a convenient stall to get them. The water heater functions really well. Bed, toilet, everything is clean. Overall, this budget hotel exceeded my expectation.

Very good value for money. The room was well appointed for the price with essential amenities such as an iron, hair dryer, and fridge. The bathroom was a decent size. The breakfast spread was decent with minor changes every day. We didn't have room service or dine in the restaurant other than during breakfast, but it's great to have an in-house restaurant for this wallet-friendly price. The hotel staff we encountered were polite, friendly, and helpful.

I had a very comfortable stay here for 2 nights. I love the spacious room and comfy bed, plus ensuite bathroom with a bathtub. Throughout my stay, the staff were very accommodating and able to fulfil my request promptly. The breakfast buffet was tasty with plenty of menu varieties. I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel in the future if they are able to keep this standard of service.

Book the Best Hotels in Ipoh for Singaporean Travellers

Ipoh, the charming capital of Perak, has emerged as one of the most popular getaway destinations for Singaporean travellers seeking an authentic Malaysian experience away from the usual Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru circuit. Known for its stunning colonial architecture, legendary white coffee, magnificent cave temples, and a thriving street art scene, Ipoh offers a slower pace of life that is both refreshing and deeply rewarding. Booking a hotel ipoh stay on Traveloka gives you access to a wide selection of properties at prices displayed in SGD, with options ranging from heritage boutique hotels in the old town to modern resorts on the outskirts of the city. The drive from Singapore to Ipoh takes approximately five hours via the North-South Expressway, making it an ideal road trip destination for families and groups of friends.

Where to Stay in Ipoh

Ipoh Old Town — Heritage & Character

Ipoh Old Town is the soul of the city and the best area for travellers who want to be immersed in its colonial charm. Many heritage buildings have been lovingly restored and converted into boutique hotels, offering a unique stay experience that blends history with modern comfort. Hotels in this area place you within walking distance of the iconic Ipoh Railway Station, known as the Taj Mahal of Ipoh, and the vibrant Concubine Lane. Rates for boutique heritage hotels start from around SGD 35 | night, while budget guesthouses can be found for as low as SGD 25 | night.

Ipoh New Town — Modern Conveniences

Across the Kinta River from the old town, Ipoh New Town offers a more contemporary setting with shopping centres, chain restaurants, and modern hotel brands. This area is ideal for families who prefer the convenience of newer facilities and proximity to shopping amenities. Mid-range hotels here are typically priced between SGD 40 | night and SGD 80 | night, and many include complimentary breakfast featuring local specialities.

Tambun & Sunway City — Hot Springs & Theme Parks

Located on the outskirts of Ipoh, Tambun is home to the Sunway Lost World of Tambun, a popular theme park and hot springs attraction. Hotels and resorts in this area are perfect for families with children, offering direct access to the park and its hot spring facilities. Resort-style accommodation starts from around SGD 60 | night and often includes water park access as part of the package.

Top Things to Do Near Your Ipoh Hotel

Explore Concubine Lane & the Old Town Heritage Trail

Concubine Lane, or Lorong Panglima, is a narrow alley in the heart of Ipoh Old Town that has become one of the city's most photographed spots. Lined with quaint shops, cafes, and souvenir stalls, this heritage lane offers a glimpse into Ipoh's colourful past. The surrounding streets are dotted with stunning murals and street art created by local and international artists, rivalling those found in Penang. A self-guided walking tour of the old town is one of the best free activities in Ipoh and takes approximately two to three hours to complete.

Visit the Magnificent Cave Temples

Ipoh is surrounded by dramatic limestone hills, and several of these house spectacular cave temples that are well worth visiting. Sam Poh Tong Temple is one of the most beautiful, featuring a serene garden and pond within the cave. Kek Lok Tong Temple offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside from its rear garden. Perak Tong Temple houses over 40 Buddha statues and features a steep staircase leading to a hilltop viewpoint. These cave temples are generally free to enter, though donations are welcome, and they provide a spiritual and scenic experience that is unique to the Ipoh region.

Taste the Famous Ipoh White Coffee

No trip to Ipoh is complete without sampling the city's world-famous white coffee. Unlike regular coffee, Ipoh white coffee is roasted with palm oil margarine, giving it a distinctively smooth and fragrant flavour. The most iconic spots to enjoy this beverage include the original Oldtown White Coffee shop, Nam Heong Coffee Shop, and Sin Yoon Loong. Many Singaporean visitors make it a point to stock up on packets of Ipoh white coffee to bring home as gifts. Pair your coffee with the equally famous Ipoh sar hor fun, a silky flat rice noodle dish that is a must-try.

Discover Ipoh's Street Art Scene

Ipoh has developed a vibrant street art culture, with murals adorning walls throughout the old town. Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic, who also created famous murals in Penang, has contributed several pieces to Ipoh's urban art landscape. The murals often depict scenes from local daily life and history, creating wonderful photo opportunities around every corner. A street art trail map is available at most hotels and tourist information centres.

Getting to Ipoh from Singapore

Singaporean travellers have several options for reaching Ipoh. The most popular route is by car, taking the North-South Expressway via Kuala Lumpur. The drive takes approximately five hours from the Singapore-Johor border and is a straightforward, well-maintained highway journey. Alternatively, you can fly from Singapore Changi Airport to Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh, with flight times of around 90 minutes. Buses from Singapore to Ipoh are also available and typically take six to seven hours, offering an economical option for budget-conscious travellers. If driving, many hotel ipoh properties offer complimentary parking, which is a significant advantage over city-centre hotels in larger Malaysian cities.

Best Food to Try in Ipoh

Ipoh is arguably one of the best food cities in Malaysia, and Singaporean foodies will be in heaven. Beyond the famous white coffee and sar hor fun, be sure to try the bean sprout chicken, where plump bean sprouts and tender poached chicken are served with fragrant rice. Ipoh's dim sum scene is also exceptional, with restaurants like Foh San Dim Sum and Ming Court Hong Kong Dim Sum drawing crowds every morning. Other local delicacies include curry mee, salt-baked chicken, and the refreshing ais kacang. The affordability of dining in Ipoh is a major draw for Singaporean travellers, with hearty meals costing a fraction of what they would in Singapore.
