Very clean room and helpful staff. Excellent location with restaurants and grocery in same building. A bit noisy on Friday night with the nightclub just below us but we slept well none-the-less. Reception lent us a power adapter and umbrellas which were both very helpful. Highly recommended.

Discover More About Alma House

Overview of Alma House

Alma House sits on Kim Yam Road, a residential street in Singapore's River Valley district, and it works differently from a conventional hotel. Traveloka lists it as an apartment-style property where guests book a private room of their own while some spaces within the unit are shared. That format, a private bedroom inside a shared apartment setting, is what defines the stay here: it suits travellers who want their own space and a residential address rather than a large lobby and a tower block.

According to Traveloka's listing data, the property was last renovated in 2024 and offers 79 rooms in total. Its registered address is 46 Kim Yam Road, unit 03-03, River Valley, Singapore 239351, roughly 2 km from the city centre by the listing's own measure. Despite the apartment format, the property is staffed: the listing records a 24-hour front desk, 24-hour security, a concierge and express check-in, which takes much of the uncertainty out of arriving late after a long flight.

Alma House's policy also allows pets, with additional charges applying, which is not something every apartment-style stay offers. Combined with the kitchenette-style in-room facilities on the listing, that makes it a practical choice for longer stays, relocations and travellers who prefer to cook some of their own meals.

Room Types at Alma House

Traveloka's structured data describes the core unit at Alma House as a Private Room. The listing's own wording is that "you will have the room for yourself, but there are some shared spaces on this unit", and it notes the arrangement is "great for when you want some privacy" while being comfortable sharing some space. The current room options, bed configurations and occupancy limits are shown in the room selector on the property page, and they can change by date, so check them for your travel dates before booking.

Private Room

The Private Room is the unit type recorded on the listing. You get a room to yourself, while some parts of the apartment unit are shared with other guests. The property's in-room facility list on Traveloka includes a desk, a TV, a shower, a hairdryer, an in-room safe, a refrigerator, a microwave and a kitchenette. Air conditioning and a heater also appear on the general facilities list. Because per-room equipment can vary, treat this as the property-level list and confirm the details shown against the specific room you select.

Layouts and room photos

The property's additional policy states that the layout of rooms may differ and that the images included are intended for illustration purposes only. In practice, this means two rooms booked under the same category may not look identical. If a particular feature matters to you, such as a work desk for remote working or kitchenette access for self-catering, contact the property through your booking before arrival.

Accessibility

Accessibility is one area where the listing is relatively detailed. Alma House records wheelchair access, an accessible bathroom and in-room accessibility features, along with an elevator. Guests with specific mobility requirements should still confirm the exact room arrangement with the property in advance, since layouts may vary between rooms.

Facilities and Amenities

For an apartment-style stay, Alma House lists a broader set of facilities than you might expect. The amenities recorded on Traveloka fall into a few practical groups:

  • Connectivity: free WiFi, with WiFi also available in public areas of the property.
  • Front desk and services: 24-hour receptionist, front desk, concierge, express check-in, early check-in and late check-out (late check-out carries additional charges).
  • Safety: 24-hour security and a safety deposit box.
  • Public areas: an elevator and coffee or tea in the lobby.
  • Comfort: air conditioning, a heater and a clothes dryer.
  • Family: a children's play area.
  • Business: a conference room, meeting facilities and a printer.
  • Transport: parking with a surcharge and an airport transfer for a surcharge.

The presence of a conference room and printer is a useful detail for business travellers on project assignments, while the clothes dryer and kitchenette-style in-room facilities matter most on stays of a week or longer. Room service is not offered, according to the listing, so plan meals around the kitchenette or the eateries in the neighbourhood.

The listing also notes several conveniences nearby rather than on site, including a supermarket, a grocery store, a laundry and a gift shop. Facility notices are occasionally posted on the property page (for example, temporary closures of a shared area for works), so it is worth glancing at the important notices section before you travel.

Location and Getting There

Kim Yam Road lies in River Valley, a largely residential district of condominiums, shophouses and low-rise streets in central Singapore. The area sits between the Orchard Road shopping belt and the Singapore River, which means you are close to both retail and the riverside quays without staying on a busy main road. Traveloka's data places Alma House about 2 km from the city centre.

  • By air: most international visitors arrive at Singapore Changi Airport. Alma House offers an airport transfer for a surcharge; request it through the property in advance. You can also book flights to Singapore on Traveloka and time your arrival to the 15:00 check-in.
  • By MRT: the wider River Valley and Orchard area is served by several MRT stations. Use a journey planner to find the most convenient station for your route, as walking times vary from street to street.
  • By car: parking is available at the property with a surcharge. Taxis and ride-hailing services cover the district well and are often the simplest option with luggage.
  • On foot: River Valley is walkable, and the residential streets around Kim Yam Road make for an easy stroll towards the river or the shopping district.

Because the property is close to both the river and Orchard Road, short taxi rides reach most central sights. For tickets and tours further afield, browse things to do in Singapore on Traveloka before you set off.

Dining at and near Alma House

Traveloka's property data records one restaurant and one bar at Alma House, and the listing indicates that breakfast is offered for an additional charge rather than included as standard. Opening hours and menus are not published in the listing, so ask the front desk what is operating during your stay. Room service is not available.

The in-room facility list is where Alma House stands apart for food. With a kitchenette, a microwave and a refrigerator recorded on the listing, many guests can prepare simple meals, store snacks and keep drinks cold, which suits longer stays and families. Coffee or tea is also listed as available in the lobby.

The listing names a supermarket and a grocery store among the nearby facilities, which makes stocking up straightforward. Beyond that, River Valley and the nearby riverside quays offer a wide spread of cafés, restaurants and hawker-style food, so you will rarely need to travel far for a meal.

  • Self-cater with the kitchenette, microwave and fridge listed for the rooms.
  • Stock up at the nearby supermarket or grocery store noted on the listing.
  • Ask at the front desk about the on-site restaurant and bar, and whether paid breakfast is available on your dates.

Why Stay at Alma House

Alma House makes the most sense for travellers who value a private room in a residential neighbourhood more than the trappings of a full-service hotel. You get your own room, a staffed 24-hour front desk, security around the clock and free WiFi, without the scale of a large tower hotel.

  • Apartment-style privacy: a private room of your own, with some shared spaces in the unit.
  • Self-catering: kitchenette, microwave and refrigerator on the in-room facility list.
  • Pet-friendly policy: pets are allowed, with additional charges.
  • Staffed around the clock: 24-hour receptionist and 24-hour security.
  • Work-ready: desk in the room, plus a conference room, meeting facilities and a printer.
  • Accessibility features: wheelchair access, an accessible bathroom and an elevator are listed.
  • Renovation on record: the listing records a 2024 renovation.

Solo travellers who value privacy, people relocating to Singapore, business visitors on medium-length assignments and pet owners will find the format a good fit. If you would prefer a pool or a full hotel experience, compare other hotels in Singapore on Traveloka to weigh your options.

Tips for Booking Alma House on Traveloka

The room was smaller than it appeared in the pictures, with very few provisions which was disappointing. We had booked for five people, but when we arrived late in the evening the fifth bed had not been made up and we were given a single duvet cover (no sheets, pillows or other bedding, and no towel) to make up the sofa bed ourselves. There was not enough cutlery (including plates, cups, teacups etc.) to service four people (never mind five!). Possibly better for smaller groups, but very difficult to manage with four or five people in the apartment.

Spacious clean room with a small kitchenette and added bonus of a washer dryer. For an extended stay it had all we needed. It is unconventionally located in a refurbished secondary school but this added to its charm. There are restaurants, shops and a supermarket just downstairs but room is quiet. My partner and I stayed two weeks in a second floor studio room which had washing and cooking facilities. The washing was invaluable, as it is so hot in Singapore, clothes only get a single use. The cooking facilities were basic, but it's cheaper to eat out at a hawker than buying groceries at the nearby cold storage. We did cook a couple of times, but nothing elaborate. The bed was a little hard for my liking, but the pillows were very comfy. Be aware that the soundproofing of the rooms is not great. We were lucky the first week, all was quiet, but the second week our neighbours turned their TV up very loud. We could also hear the music from something nearby in the mornings on the weekend. We suspected this was a local exercise class. The bathroom was fine and the rainfall shower had good pressure. The downside was that it would spray everywhere, soaking the floor. The room should really come with a squeegee mop or similar to deal with wet floors in the 3-4 days between room service. As everything got wet so often, there was a dehumidifier supplied in the room which we had to keep running 24/7. This increased the noise levels throughout the room, so if you are a light sleeper, it could be difficult. The location is about 15 minutes walk from an MRT station with some slight hills. There is a shuttle bus that runs between Orchard and New Bahru, but it only runs from midday until 8pm. Overall Alma House is a decent place to stay if you are okay with the walking and the noise.

Overall, the accommodation was excellent - clean and included laundry and a kitchenette. Service was terrific with the front desk being on WhatsApp 24/7 and super responsive to my needs. The only thing I would have an issue with is that the design of the showers is one of those "modern" and impractical takes whereby every drop of shower water ends up all over the bathroom floor which makes brushing teeth or going to the toilet a wet and uncomfortable experience. Also, the nearest bus stop or metro is about a 15-20 minute walk away and it would have been nice to have picked a location that was closer to those modes of transit but that one is on me.

The apartment was modern and spacious. We had two double bedrooms, and also the option of a sofa bed. It was great having a washing machine in the room. Each room has a kettle, microwave and two ring hob ( but no oven or toaster). It had all the basic equipment you might need except dishcloth and tea towels. Staff were really helpful with any issues and easily/ quickly contactable through WhatsApp. The area is pretty close to a lot of things- just a couple of stops on the mrt or bus to get anywhere. Underneath the flat is a supermarket with most things you could need as well as a number of restaurants etc. we were there for a fortnight and found plenty to do in Singapore.
