We were pleased with the spacious room and superking bed. The breakfast was adequate but lacked a choice of cereals and fruit considering the £24 price tag. Overall we were comfortable and happy with our stay.

Beautiful hotel just outside of the town centre. Staff are friendly and helpful. Hotel was spotless and the bar/lounge area was so comfortable. Parking was a massive plus and there were plenty of spaces near to all rooms. The area felt safe even late at night. The pool was clean and quiet during our visit. I will definitely stay here again.

Unfortunately the air conditioning was broken and there was no one on site to take a look at it. As there was a fan in the room, we assume the air con wasn’t working. We had a good welcome at reception. We were less impressed by there being no bar snacks/crisps at the bar on a Saturday night. The service was slow but they did apologise. The food in the dining room was very average. The pool was great. For the £214 we paid for the night (bedroom only) and it being part of the MacDonald group, we did expect better. It was a very convenient location.

We were glad we opted for an upgrade to a room in the Manor House. A lovely room. Breakfast was buffet but plenty of choices and coffee was okay. Service good. We visited the pool and steam and sauna which although obviously in need of a refurbish we still enjoyed. The bar and lounge areas were comfortable. Our only problem, which was quite major for us, was Reception. My husband is disabled and we are both elderly, but when we asked for our bags to be brought down to Reception the Receptionist told us that the staff were all too busy as was she. In the event we left our bags in the room, and delayed our onward journey for an hour to help with our request. Room 2 has steep and shallow stairs that we couldn’t have managed with cases, overall left a very unpleasant taste after an otherwise enjoyable stay. I have asked for the Manager’s email or to get in touch privately but no joy.

Room was clean and pleasant. Staff were all helpful and friendly particularly Elizabeth on the desk. We upgraded our room to onevinnthe coach house which was quirky and nicely decorated and i really aporeciated the elemis toiletries. Reasonable selection of cold breakfast food and a decent english breakfast. Only drawback is the spa area which is very shabby with many cracked tiles in the steam room and by the pool. There was no hot water in the spa area and changing rooms as the boiler was broken. I chose the hotel partly because i trust macdonald hotels but in this case for the spa! So that was a pity really. I got the impression that they were understaffed that day- it was a Bank Holiday.

The main hotel is characterful and pleasant. I found my room in one of the newer blocks to be noisy, more so when a table tennis table was erected under my window. The spa was disappointing, particularly when compared to a MacDonald Spa I am a previous member of. The pool and steam room are shedding tiles in large patches, some lying loose in the bottom of the pool. The Spa had no hot water for showering which rather spoiled my spa day. All staff were pleasant and helpful.

Check in was absolutely fine, polite, helpful and quick in providing our room cards, so no issues there. Upon arrival into the hotel room, I noticed the minibar was completely empty; also with no complimentary water set out. This I do expect in any establishment with three stars or higher. Into the bathroom, the ceiling extractor fan was screeching and noisy; requiring a small whack to quieten it down. The shower felt a little dangerous as it was extremely narrow with a boxed pipework near to my head making it that much more precarious. End of day one, and then into day two and the breakfast. Again, nothing wrong with the staff who were always polite and helpful. They do a wonderful job in often challenging times. Menu's were placed either on the table or presented to us, although far too little a time was offered for us to make a choice or decision of breakfast. Admittedly we could've asked for more time to choose, we were offered the full English cooked breakfast which wasn't terrible. The hash brown or pancake was though. Check out, the gentleman on the reception desk wasn't too welcoming or helpful; instead remained seated happily content with tip tapping away on his computer. Location I must say is absolutely wonderful and so close to the town centre. The hotel was overall very clean, with beautifully maintained grounds; although we didn't come for the lawns. When staying in 4 of 5 star establishments, and now being in my 50's; I do hold a certain expectations.

£5 supplement for a bit of salmon for breakfast? Then being compelled to pay for it at restaurant and not add to room - pretty poor. £7 per day charge for parking? Honestly poor show. Hotel is like how can we squeeze more money out of guests instead of how can we enhance the stay experience for the guest.
