Mercure Newport

Not the hotels fault but when we arrived every street was covered in police to prevent fights between football fans, this was happening at the pub across the road. On arrival the hotel looks nice. The receptionist spoke very fast and didn't seem to want to make conversation. the room is basic, it has what you need and the room is very warm. Lovely view too. Was let down by poor cleaning. The bedding became loose which uncovered what I'm hoping was a huge coffee stain under the sheets, it was on a mattress topper easy to remove and change over. The shower is powerful so much that water ends up outside of the shower, there was old dirt coming away from the bottom of the glass on the shower too. Good to stay if you want something cheap to get to Cardiff central. We had breakfast on the last morning, selection was good and enjoyable. Recommend to check when match days are happening to avoid being caught up in local fights.

Great hotel with comfortable and modern room, great view over the river from the top floor. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast had the usual selection of items. Decent location in the town centre.

The rooms are now a little run down. The sink was chipped, plenty of scuff marks everywhere. I had a junior suite and the sofa area was missing a small table to make it functional. Overall the stay was quiet and clean, but this place is starting to feel shabby. You can park in the nearby shopping center car park, but it would be nice if the Mercure could validate parking, or at least provide preferential rates.

This hotel is amazing. Really modern comfortable room, excellent beds and facilities. So convenient for Newport town centre, train, bus, car park, shops and restaurants. Staff are really friendly and helpful.

As someone born in Newport, I really appreciated seeing the references to the Transporter Bridge throughout the hotel. The staff are wonderful, so helpful and friendly. The rooms and beds are comfortable and as two women guests we felt very safe

Staff at the hotel were excellent and the facilities are great, not being able to plug anything into the TV was an issue and the recommended parking was full so had to park a fair bit away from the hotel

Receptionist on check in was great, really efficient and very friendly. Room was nice, clean and comfy bed

Amazing staff, friendly, although please ring them in advance if your cheaking in at very late hours whilst day shift on so reception are aware as it does not say this on the expedia website for it.

The entry was pretty grotty. Checkin was smooth and staff helpful. Our room was cooking on entry and took time to cool down. It seemed small and plain and well used. Bathroom very good. Bedding was disappointing. A way to thick mattress topper making the bed too soft and some well used pillows that should have been retired long ago. Dinner was nothing special just microwaved curry and a pre made pizza. Breakfast was very good! Overall disappointing for a well regarded brand? YMMV

The bathroom and some furniture was tired but the junior suite had nice window sill to sit on overlooking the river. Nice few soft drinks in the fridge

Nice stay. Only minor problem was waiting some time to get booked in for my room.

Hotel was great. No complaints but the reception had put people in the wrong rooms (we were a biggish party for a funeral) so when I left they told me my room hadn’t been paid for, I kept telling them the name they were saying was not me. I unfortunately was in a hurry to catch my Uber so had to pay. I 100% had paid for my 3 rooms already. Then had to message the other party and get my payment back from them.
