I'll start off by saying the location is absolutely incredible. There is wildlife and lots of great walks in the area and easy access to the park. We enjoyed sitting in the lodge with a drink and enjoying the fire or playing chess. However, the Cradle Mountain Lodge seems to be resting on its laurels and banking on the fact that you don't have many accommodation options in the area. I'm sure this place used to be nice but it is badly in need of updates to justify it's price.
The bed was one of the worst I slept on all trip. All springs. The pillows were flat as well. There is no TV or WiFi in the rooms and mobile service only if you have Telstra. The rooms haven't been updated in years, and while clean and tidy, it shows. They even still have single pane windows throughout the property. The redeeming qualities of the room were the fireplace, views outside, and a complimentary little hamper with wine and snacks on arrival. That unfortunately is the only freebie you'll get.
As for on site amenities, the shop is extremely expensive. Make sure you buy anything you want in your room ahead of time. Especially wine. The bistro was nice but expensive, the breakfast was ok.
The private spa is amazing and one of the reasons we originally came here years ago. In the past you would get a welcome glass of champagne and some snacks with the pricey experience, but these days even after paying $205 for 90 mins, those little touches are both extra now.
Final thoughts, ice with a big *
