Love this hotel, it was my second stay here.

Friendly helpful staff

Easy to book and reasonably prices compared to other options such as travel lodge. We had a room with 2 double beds which provided plenty room. Room was spacious. Our room did not have air conditioning but the hotel provide a fan which made a big difference. It's very central, taxi rank right outside hotel. Very central and convenient location. Nice decor with impressive staircase. Would book again.

Genuinly couldn’t fault the staff, they were great,helpful,considerate, polite and well mannered. However the room was no as great, a lot of dirty looking grout in the shower/bathroom. There was direct light in our ceiling only bedside lights. The room was also extremely hot and both of us woke several times during the night because of the temperature( we did have a fan running the whole night, and resorted to taking the duvet out of its sheet and just using the sheet. However breakfast the next morning was excellent! And the use of the shared baggage room is extremely handy !

The person on the concierge desk was fabulous but the rooms felt like they had been neglected The biggest issue was parking as there were too few spots and you had to drive off site to get parking, which you had to pay for

Convenient location, cool paintings and sculptures, clean enough room. The ceiling above the bed was cracked where the light was and seemed like it wouldn’t last much longer. The room felt old and musty. They stuck two twin beds together and it was terribly uncomfortable.

This is a very neglected older hotel. The carpets are worn and dirty, wallpaper is cracked and separating, and the inside woodwork rotten and in desperate need of repair. On a good note, the staff was very nice and professional.

This is a beautiful old (historic) hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. Although the building is old, it is well maintained. Very classic. They had an art exhibit in the lobby - really wonderful. I loved it! I would come back.

This hotel was unique. Interesting combo of an older building, similar decor to the movie The Shining, funky-fun art, and very large room and bathroom. We had a drink at the bar which was good. They use actual metal room keys..fun. We did run into a problem with parking. The hotel is in the same parking lot area as the train. Train people aren’t allowed to park so luckily there was a spot open when we arrived. In the morning 2 cars were blocking our car in. One was the receptionist who said she’d move it but we were worried it would not be enough space to back out. We finally did back out successfully but it was a hassle. If you are from another country that drives on the other side of the car and the other direction of traffic, you might find this a challenge. The receptionist did move her car while the other car remained behind us but further away from her car’s original position. The receptionist didn’t seem happy that we were so concerned. She was clearly put out by me keeping our room key until we were able to get out of the parking space just in case we had to remain the hotel while a tow truck came for the other car blocking us in. It could have been handled better by telling right away that happens all the time, if it actually does, and not to be overly concerned because people get out of the parking spaces when situations like that occur. It ruined the feeling for us as we drive away. It is a uniquely decorated and fun place to stay minus their parking situation.

O hotel estava sem Wi-Fi. Foi relatado que o problema começou de manhã... passaram 24h e ainda não tinham resolvido. O hotel não tem ar condicionado, então tivemos que deixar a janela aberta, contudo, na região, existem milhares de gaivotas que cantam a noite inteira. Além disso, o café da manhã é vendido como "continental", ou seja, sem pratos quentes, como ovo por exemplo. Na hora da reserva não havia esta distinção, e o hotel queria cobrar 9 libras por pessoa para uma porção de ovo. Fora isso, o hotel está localizado em uma excelente região, o prédio é antigo e bonito, porém, carece de manutenção e modernização.

Royal Highland is an ideal location and at first glance a quality hotel. However we were given a room on the 3rd floor (attic) which for close on £400 for two nights was way below my expectations. The window is very old and shows signs of rot. It didn’t keep out the noise from the street or the plant downstairs. The room was compact and the floor slopes and there’s a loose tile immediately in front of the shower unit. The decor of the room is very dated and in need of an upgrade. I have previously stayed in this hotel with no complaint but I doubt I would use it again.

Only the location is fine

Unfortunately I slept in an unclean bed. By the time I realized it and called for clean linen it was 830. By 930 I was falling asleep on the towel laid down. The gentleman was apologetic saying he was alone and it was busy. Offered to come bring stuff when his relief came but it was my first night and I hadn't slept in 28 hours so I declined. Ended up sleeping on the towels. Part of the uncleanliness was glitter all over the blanket which of course I didn't notice until I had my stuff laid out on it...so now everything I own has glitter on it. So anyway, they don't clean/change the blankets out (no top sheet to at least be a barrier either). The staff I interacted with were nice enough but they need better housekeeping personal.

Very good Receptionist most helpful to highlight areas within walking

Clean large room. A bit basic with dated decor but perfect location next to train station in the heart of town.

The location was city center. Parking was a bit difficult. There were only like 8 spots. The floorboards in the room were a bit off and the ac unit didn’t work (we are here in the heat wave). Staff super nice though

Loved location and cleanliness

Nostalgic historical hotel with beautiful lobby. Rooms are worn and need renovation. Beds are small and hard. Rooms are warm and lack ventilation. Nice large bathtubs. Parking is 2 blocks away, but hotel is in great location.

Great location close to bus station. Luggage storage prior to check-in and post check-out was a breeze. Old hotel with some quirks and lots of character.
