Ia adalah penginapan yang hebat di hotel ini. Bilik itu besar dan luas dan saya suka konsep tandas! Semuanya sempurna kecuali wifi. Ia adalah dahsyat kerana sambungan itu begitu perlahan dan saya tidak boleh menggunakannya sama sekali.

VERY BAD SERVICE
I went to stay at Hotel 19 with my family last year August. We checked in late afternoon. Each room only allowed 2 people and we paid for the additional person (3rd person). We booked a total of 3 room. My aunt who stayed in Penang helped us to locate the hotel and ensured we were settled down before she left. I also paid a deposit which was told to refund during the check out. We requsted for additional blankets and pillows for the 3rd person and we were told, the housekeeping has already left therefore they are unable to give it to us. How could they charge for a additional person and not provide us with the basics? The following morning when we went to have breakfast, the person in-charge (chinese lady). She stood by my mom's side when my mom was taking her breakfast choice from the buffet spread. That was rude, we ain't going to steal her food! we paid for it! As my aunt came to fecth us from the hotel and met us at the breakfast looby, the lady approached us and told us that only 9 people will be allowed to eat. My aunt was not there for your breakfast & even if she wanted it, we can pay for it! We stayed for 3D2N, on the day of check out. We headed out for breakfast and returned. When we went up to our rooms to get our bags, the room was found to be locked. Approached the front desk and they told us it will be auto locked after check out time. It was clearly done on purpose and was ridiculous! I have never experienced such situtaion in any hotel where the rooms get locked before the guest leaves. Its as if you are going to run away without making a payment. We found out the chinese lady from the breakfast lobby was in-charge of the room clearance as well. She ordered to lock our rooms and wanted to check if there was a overstay member. Demanded to talk to the manager but there was only a man who was in-charge on that day. The deposit which I made during the check in was not refunded exactly. I had to do my own calculations and demand for the right amount of refund. The In-charge was not very helpful and could not explain to us about the bad service. He was not sorry at all and no service recovery was done. He just wanted to get his work done and get us out. It was truly a bad experience and a horrible service. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Conveniently located
The location is great for a short stay and Little India and Chinatown are both within walking distance. The variety of food available is large and there are a lot of things to see if you enjoy walking. The hotel itself is well kept, but the service could be better. Breakfast was very rudimentary for non-asians but the dining room was absolutely lovely and the artwork there was very original. The room was large and the bathroom facilities more than adequate, however the lack of hand towels (even after asking three times) was annoying. The replacement of linen was haphazard leaving us with only one bath towel, which was remedied, but belatedly.

Having stayed at Hotel 19 last year and being very satisfied, we again booked in for our 5 night stay in Penang. After a few little discrepancies on the first day, we were moved to a very good room away from lots of noise from large families for the next 4 nights. This hotel is great if you use the tourist bus pass as it is opposite the main bus terminal and ferry. Easy walk to shopping and food outlets. The staff are helpful, especially Alice, who we had met on our previous stay. The included breakfast is typical Malaysian, so we were happy with that. We love to steer clear of western foods when we visit Asia.

Great location, clean, very basic amenities
While it may not be the best hotel you've ever stayed in, just remember that given the location and the price, it's actually value for money. I booked the Deluxe King - room was OK and clean. Furniture was a bit old but it had all your basic needs (e.g. bath towels, mini fridge, tv, safe, kettle, iron & ironing board, etc). It had a window with no view. Everything was adequate as long as you're not too concerned about the details. Breakfast menu was also very basic (nasi lemak, fried noodles, scrambled eggs, sausages, fruit, salad, bread). There was only one staff running around re-filling the buffet, cleaning the tables & collecting the coupons - a little stern for someone in a service industry, she could use a smile. Parking lot was small but there weren't many cars parked. I had to pay a deposit (which was returned upon check-out) which I found to be a bit odd since they already had my credit card details from the booking website. If you're looking for an accommodation below MYR200 per night and walking distance from the Georgetown heritage area, I'd recommend Hotel 19 - but in hindsight, I would pay a bit more for other nearby hotels just for that extra satisfaction.

Nobody at the Reception Desk to return our Deposit !
Stayed Feb. 16 and 17. This hotel runs on a very sparse skeleton crew: I manager, I Front desk Receptionists, I Housekeeping staff, 2 security guard seen briefly twice (in our 2 days stay) at the Lobby. MYR50 cash was collected from us upon check-in even though we had already prepaid online for our stay via Hotels.com booking. The manager, Alice, assured us we will get the deposit upon check-out. But on the morning of our check out nobody was manning the Reception. We couldn't wait around because we had to catch the 6am ferry across to Butterworth to make the 7.20am train down to KL to catch our flight back to the US. In KL, we called the manager to ask for our deposit. She explained that the receptionist was at their other sister hotel running errands. My guess is the Receptionist was picking up Guests Breakfast Buffet which isn't made on site but which starts at 7am. We discuss how to possibly get our deposit refunded. I emailed her my niece's name & address so the manager can sent her our deposit refund in a Postal order minus the postage it cost to mail. I felt it was very cheap of them because they screwed up. However, we're now back in the US for almost a week and my niece in Malaysia has not received the refund. I followed up with another email requesting the manager to make a direct deposit of the refund into a niece's bank account to save the manager the trouble of making a trip to the post office. Still my niece has not received anything. We are very unhappy about the management's unresponsiveness. Future guests beware. Be sure to push for your deposit refund.
