The Shoreline Inn

The people were very friendly and helpful. The building itself is older and is need of repair (roof leak) and general upkeep. Needs a good carpet cleaning. I was disappointed to find that there isn't an elevator, but it was only one flight of stairs. It would of been more of an issue if I was alone. There was a musty smell when first entering the room, and I was bummed to find the room had no AC, but they supplied a box fan for the window though one window did not have a screen. The fan was necessary to keep comfortable. Also, disappointed the room lacked a coffee maker and/or microwave. But liked that the room fridge was lager than usual; which we need. The bed was very comfortable and clean.

The water was hot, They need vase improvements on repairs. Staff was very friendly out of their control for conditions of the building and rooms!

I can not say enough positive things about this hotel! Monica and all of the staff were very accommodating! Yes, it’s older. It’s actually the oldest hotel in Grand Marais. If you are looking for a cozy place to rest your head after exploring the city or hiking the beautiful trails this is the place! Comfy bed, great views of the lake! (Make sure to request a lake facing room) Right dead center of the town, very walkable location!

The location is amazing! Small older motel was perfect for our stay and price. Could use some TLC in areas.

Big hole and leak in ceiling in hall from rain. No maid service. Used rooms left undone and open for days - half of rooms midweek.

Deck on Superior was great.

Staff were nice, and the location was excellent. Great water views. Easy walk to everything in Grand Marais. However, carpeting was too old to look clean, there were two wet towels from previous guests hanging on the back of the bathroom door. Towels were frayed. Found mouldy bread in the breakfast area, where both coffee carafes had orange handles marked "not decaf." Again, nice staff, but the place needs a re-do.

Great location

The staff was nice, and location is great. The building needs a lot of work. Our bathroom sink was clogged the whole time despite several efforts to fix. There were buckets in the hallway to catch the water from the leaking roof. Looks like general maintenance has been neglected. Liked that it was dog friendly.

Lovely

Nice to find a lower price than other hotels and to be right on Lake Superior. It’s an older building with leaks and some issues. But the bed was comfortable, and it helps to have a fridge and microwave available.

Don't let the updated sign out front fool you. The whole building is old and outdated. Our room upon arrival had a strong chemical smell, which we later found out was "comet cleaner" which explained the white powdery film all over the bathroom tile floor. The main appeal to booking the Shoreline Inn was the view of Lake Superior. Each room has a bay window facing the water. Our's however was covered with a stained glass designed contact paper. Prohibiting seeing out. When questioned about it, we were told that the window was a dual paned window and the "gas" middle had caused the window to be fogged up. We were told that the room was labeled "village" which we were supposed to know meant you couldn't see the water. No explaination was given in their description online. There was no air condtioning on the property, which was stated in the description, a box fan was provided. But the two side windows of the bay could be opened. We were only able to open one side window, due to the other not having a screen to keep out the insects. The center ceiling light in the room was a flourescent fixture, that when on, was a strobe light. We were to stay two nights and could only bring ourselves to stay one. We would not recommend this property to anyone.

I haven't stayed at this property for probably 13 years. It was sad to see how its been "let go". Literally the same bedspreads, and faded posters on the walls. The tub had no mat, very slippery, had to stand on a washcloth. The carpet was in poor condition, torn wall paper. Our door had a huge gap on the top, and the extra lock on the inside was broken. The refrigerator control was broken. It was overall fairly clean, and the staff were wonderful. The location is the best, and we were on the lake side. Our windows did open, and you could see out of them. ( other reviews said you couldn't do either)This little hotel could be a gem, sad to see it like this. We still had a great time, so I could overlook these issues. But they really need to do repairs.

great location and very nice staff

I enjoyed the ladies at the front desk. Roo was clean, bed was great. But breakfast was all carbs and not so good. The building is falling apart. In our room we had patio furniture. Very uncomfortable! Not a place to relax. Windows had no screens to keep out the bugs. Tv was difficult. No local channels and had to have someone come put it on her netflex or we couldnt have watched tv. If you are just looking to sleep for the night and move on, it will work for you. Bed was nice

Right in downtown. Great location!

The hotel is quite run down. The hallways needed a bucket to catch rain water. The carpets are stained. The rooms are cooled with open windows, but one of our two windows labeled a bug screen.
