A good stay in a hotel that is well positioned for a visit to York, located adjacent to the horse racing course. Excellent, well-cooked breakfast. Downsides of the stay were a top floor room that was inordinately hot and the air-conditioning couldn't cope with reducing the temperature, plus the greeting at check-in was rather indifferent and lacked any sincere welcome.

I stayed for 4 nights at the Holiday Inn in York. I was warmly greeted by the receptionist and was checked in quickly. As I don't use lifts, the receptionist arranged for my suitcase to be taken up to my room. My room, on the 2nd floor, was big and looked very clean. There was a double bed, 2 seater sofa, TV, plenty of hanging space but only 5 hangers, and tea/coffee making facilities. Whilst the bathroom was quite small it had everything you could want (shower only, no bath). There was plenty of dispensers for soap, shower gel and hand wash and plenty of lovely white towels. Breakfast was included in the cost but I don't have breakfast so cannot comment on this. I did, however, have an evening meal which was lovely. There was plenty of parking on site but the car park at the back has a few pot holes. There is easy access from the hotel to York by either bus or walking. There is also a bus stop nearby for buses to Leeds. I enjoyed my stay and am already looking forward to my next visit.

Hotel is a bit tired but has had an internal facelift. Was good vfm on a race day and staff helpful.

The hotel is quite dated in some communal areas, but generally clean. Stayed in a standard twin room (Room 216). The bathroom was far too small requiring you step to the side of the toilet to easily close the door. The shower has a high step up into it, which clearly is an ongoing issue as there is a sign warning guests to take extra care getting in and out. The buffet breakfast is everything you need, but the layout creates a problem in some places, especially where the tea and coffee machine is located, as this is the entrance to the food area and gets clogged in busy periods, so would benefit being moved elsewhere.

The hotel reception looked up to date and the staff were friendly and welcoming. However, upon arriving to our 'family' room, there were only 2 mugs (not 4), 3 sets of towels (not 4) and there was a massive wine stain on the carpet. How anyone could miss this and still give the room to a family is shocking. I have to say when I showed reception, they asked if I wanted to change rooms but as we were only staying overnight there was no point. They also added to the mugs and towels happily but I'm disappointed it wasn't already considered. They knew a family was booked in as the sofa bed was made up. We decided to have dinner in the restaurant which was really nice, we were impressed with the food and the children were well looked after, and on top of that 'kids ate free' which was a lovely surprise!

Functional comfortable room for an overnight stay with excellent breakfast. Great variety of quality breakfast options. Very friendly & helpful staff.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good value, offering a range if quality products. A very clean hotel. Pity itbis located a fair distance from York centre

Breakfast was great but the extra i paid for a better room wasnt worth it. Stocked fridge suggests more than 2 cans of pop 2 bottle's of water a packet of crisp and a small mars bar. You'd expect water in your room in any hotel. We had no milk in the room of any kind so couldnt make a hot drink. Not enough still water in any capacity. Breakfast was good.

Great location, breakfast was brilliant and staff were good. The property needs some TLC as it was a bit tired and the bathroom in our room could have been a bit bigger.

The room was very high standard. Ruby on the bar was very helpful with information on things in York, With her service she made it like we were in our local which is a great feeling, always ready to help with our orders with outstanding manners. Thank you to all the staff for a beautiful stay.

The lobby was nicely decorated and inviting. Comfy seating to wait while the small queue of guests were dealt with. Check in was quick and uneventful. I was given a room on the second floor. The room itself was big and bright with a huge window. The bed was a really good size and pretty comfortable. The room looked very tired and rundown, lots of scratches and chips around the edges of doors and walls. The bathroom was ok but very small. I had to laugh because there was a sign on the bathroom mirror boasting about how clean their rooms are, whilst right underneath it were drops of blue toothpaste all around the sink vanity. The toilet constantly dripped after flushing. The USB next to the bed was a nice touch, but a previous guest had left something wedged in there, so it didn’t work. The TV had also had the aerial and power lead removed from the back of it, so it took me a few minutes to get that all hooked back up again to get the TV going. It was an adequate stay, but the hotel was nothing special. I couldn’t report any of the issues as I checked out, because the fire alarm test was happening.
