They are renovating, which you are told by a note stuck on the wall. They have exposed wires, no mirrors, boxes with toilets sitting in bathrooms waiting to be installed, no locks on shower door, plug at bed not charging. The radiator on the top floor room is broken and is on all the time so that with the skylight heat, its way too hot. They charge £10 to move beds however given the heat, they let me move for no charge. I think he just couldnt be bothered arguing as hostel wasnt full. They also told us they were having an exterminator spray all the beds as there was complaints about bed bugs. They should close the hostel for a week to get everything fixed, cleaned, de-bugged and sorted as the standard is very poor in this transition period.

This was my fourth stay at the West End, and as usual I was very happy with the service and cleanliness. The manager, Lucas, was very helpful and welcoming, and I am sure that I'll be returning because I have tried nearly all budget accomodations in Edinburgh and find that this one offers the best value. Anyone who uses hostels knows that part of the experience is determined by the people who happen to be there as well, but at this place there is a very nice bar and a kitchen for guest use, so no need to spend all of your time in the room itself. The location is ideal: very close to the Leith walkway and the two Modern Art Galleries. If you are travelling light, it is possible to walk to the West End from Waverly, enjoying the beauty of Edinburgh all along the way!

The room wasn't like showed on the pictures, no lockers inside, not the cleanest too. But luckily the staff was very nice and accommodating. It also was really hot because the heating was broken so overall not the best.

Lockers for your bags under the bed would go a long way cause it’s not like there’s anywhere to put your bags on the floor either. Plus, the pillows weren’t actual pillows but rather pouches filled with something squishy and the sheet on my bed were ripped at the top. The staff tho are absolute angels, I would give each one of them a million out of ten if I could. So nice, so willing to help. Over all, you get what you pay for. For the price and the location, it wasn’t that bad overall.

The area was alright. For the price and the time of my stay it was fair I think. I got the room on the floor they are making renovations, and that wasn't a problem. I didn't like the lights on the toilets were automated and only turned on when you were on the outside. I was still on the shower when the lights were off. The person doing the check in was a bit condescending, with the fact I had to walk the stairs with a a roller bag, which I didn't mind, but the way he said: "it is what it is", it was unnecessary. Other than that, like I said, for the price it was alright.

Don't believe the reviews or property amenities, no restaurant, diffinately no breakfast. I was on the 4th floor with plenty of stairs. Mainly the absence of breakfast as is listed is a no go

A decent hostel, I think for the price it was just as you would expect. Service in the reception/bar was great, I enjoyed my stay and I think the location was pretty good too. The beds are a bit flimsy, but overall I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend.

Not a Comfy place at all, toilets were limited and unclean, Hand washes are not working and the roommates were snooring a lot, such a terrible place to stay.

It was a terrible experience in staying at west end there was lot of people staying in one hostel room, and some of them were snooring so loud, apart from that the toilets were very dirty and the seats were broken and very limited toilets were there as there are lot of people staying at….

Good place to stay on a budget, very friendly staff and clean rooms.

One of the cleanest hostels I have been so far, just a half an hour walk from the old town.

Really nice staff and very decent price in the midst of the edinburgh fringe festival. Convenientyl located, only a 30 minute walk from the pleasance dome area. My only issue was that the bedroom was unbearably hot (outside temp only reached highs of 24⁰ so I dread to think what it would be like if it were even hotter outside). Otherwise very clean and typical of hostel with (3-tiered) bunk beds. Despite the heat I did sleep well. They have decent facilities including a bar which seemed alright although I didn't personally make use of it. Free wifi too. Would recommend if you're travelling on a lower budget :)
