Great stay but HOT! We've stayed at Old Thorns a few times but sadly I won't be staying again during summer. There is no air conditioning in the rooms and the fan provided (had to request it) was quite rubbish. Our room, apart from being hotter than the sun, was great though. Massive bed and lots of room around it. Had a few issues, such as the phone not working to enable us to request a fan, lack of fridge and very dusty/dirty up-lighters. We really enjoyed the pool area and being able to read a book on the loungers.

Upon arrival to the hotel we were immediately impressed by the grounds and the buildings. The car park is big so there is no worry about finding a space in which to park. The Reception staff were very friendly and checked us in without any issue. All staff were helpful and courteous in dealing with us during our stay. Our room was spacious, well equipped with tea /coffee making facilities, an iron and ironing board, hairdryer and a tower fan which came in useful during the warm nights. The bathroom was clean and tidy. There was a decent buffet breakfast with both hot and cold options, and the food was replenished frequently. We visited the Sports Bar for food and drinks whilst the Qatar v Switzerland game was on, service was friendly and fast. We enjoyed a carvery meal on the Sunday evening, again the food was hot, plentiful and delicious! We enjoyed a couple of drinks at the The Deers Hut pub which is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Great atmosphere there too. We made use of the swimming pool, which thankfully, was warm. Towels are provided so no need to bring your own. You can get locker keys by swapping your room card. Definitely a place to revisit.

Lovely room, lovely breakfast. A great venue for a birthday trip.

The room was clean but the lack of air conditioning really let it down. Although we stayed in a particularly warm spell, I imagine that it would be pretty uncomfortable a lot of the time. It was difficult to sleep due to the heat. The staff were really friendly but not particularly efficient in the Sports Bar. Many people were queuing for quite some time to get a drink. The vegetarian options in the Sports Bar were extremely limited. The option picked was awful but a refund was given without any issues. The non-vegetarian choices made were ok but nothing special for the prices charged. It put us off dining in the restaurant. Breakfast was ok and could have been improved by different coffee options, more fresh fruit, and better quality pastries. Labels on items would have helped those with dietary issues/restrictions. All in all we did enjoy our stay but a few tweaks would have made it somewhere to return to.

Searched specifically for a hotel with a pool, turn up at the pool to find out that kids are only allowed in for 2 x 2 hour sessions. Only a fan in the room, no air conditioning, so no one slept well.

Spa was amazing, I had a back massage which was so nice. The rooms could do with a bit of a touch up as some of the decor is bit tired now. Also Air conditioning would be a benefit we did have a fan but the room was so hot.

Very good. Great parking. Food was very good. Gym is excellent.

Breakfast was ok. Basic selection. Found the sausages a bit salty, no omelette options, no hot chocolate drink. Rooms were clean. All had bath tub.

Beautiful location and grounds, fantastic hotel, friendly staff, very comfortable very large bed and excellent breakfast

Beautiful hotel, great facilities. Spa lovely but looking a little tired in places as a few things weren’t working. In every other respect the hotel was gorgeous

Breakfast was ok but lacked fresh fruit, the property needs a refresh and fridges in the bedrooms (although one was supplied on request) No air con but that's normal for the UK. The room was clean and the sports bar was ok - spacious and quick service with pool tables and tvs to watch sport. Driving range and tennis courts were fun and there are outdoor spaces to sit and relax

Gym one of the best for equipment and variety of weight selection

Didn't use any of the facilities but were shown the pool and gym. All looked wonderful and at time, Not busy even though Easter week and child swim time was on. Lots of good walks around, and away from the course. No breakfast, but did use Oties for a bap and drinks. Deers Hut at entrance to the drive in is still brilliant for food and atmosphere. .

Booked here for my son’s wedding unfortunately can’t say it all ran smoothly. Firstly we were constantly waiting to be served both in the bars and for breakfast, the only excuse they gave us was they were short staffed not what you want to hear when you’re spending a lot of money on a wedding. Overall the wedding went well and was well organised.

The staff were lovely, check in was a really smooth experience and they were friendly at the front desk every time we went past them. The breakfast was yummy but lots of things ran out at various points i.e. no eggs, then no hash browns, but the food was good. I did not get a chance to use the spa facilities. The bed was SO comfortable and the shower was great - I wish I could have spent more time in the room.

We had a good stay at Old Thorns. Stayed because attending a wedding. Quiet and spacious rooms. Exceptionally clean. Very good customer service throughout.

Easy access to the parking lot, The receptionist was very helpful and kind on our arrival and during our stay. The service in the restaurant where we ate was great, we were satisfied with the breakfast
