Although we loved many aspects of this hotel, we were disappointed in the bedroom itself, which we found to be inadequate for two people. Firstly, the clothing storage space was grossly inadequate for two guests (largely because the coffee-maker / mini-bar occupied a disproportionate amount of space); secondly, we found that the bathroom affords an unusually scant degree of privacy. Furthermore, the only two English-language TV stations (CNN and BBC) kept switching to being dubbed in Japanese, and the front desk was not entirely helpful in resolving the situation.

Exceptional stay. Nothing short of the standards I expect of a Ritz Carlton property in Japan.

Though this 5 star hotel is pricy. It was worth it.! Beautiful hotel and property and all the staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Ive been spoiled. Made my visit to Japan more pleasant. Its also perfectly located on river. A great experience for my husband and I. Will cone back.

Excellent superb service by every single member of the staff . This particular ritz Carlton should be recategorized as a 7 star hotel (if there is not such a rating , one should be started) instead of 5 star. This property deserves all the praise and then some - especially their staff and service.

Still not sure how they did it, but it exceeded every expectation I had. It was the best experience I have had at a hotel.

Dry nice and central - service in restaurants somewhat questionable - lots get “lost in transaltion” Early morning cycle tour really great and worth doing!!

A beautiful property combines the Japanese traditional charm with modern amenities and comfort. Staff exceptionally helpful and providing highest level of service. I cannot recommend this hotel enough .. it is an experience to be enjoyed

Unbelievable. No better atmosphere, service or quality at any other hotel in Kyoto.

This hotel doesn’t have what other hotels have of this quality…they don’t have shuttles, they don’t have complimentary coffee or tea, or really Anything complimentary…this is a very formal hotel, we will not stay here again very disappointed.

Staff and property are beautiful. First time in Kyoto but location is perfect for gion and other areas.

In the true Ritz-Carlton tradition, the R-C Kyoto upholds the highest standards of customer service and provides a 5 star facility. We asked for help from the concierge regarding a tour guide and what to see and he responded with great advice and helped us make a great connection.

I will rate this hotel as 4.5 stars rather than perfect 5 stars. The minor complaints are the breakfast and the location. The Japanese breakfast here is not as flavorful as the one I have in Tokyo (another 5 stars hotel). The location is far away from high end shopping malls and the surrounding area looks like a very average neighborhood.

Hidden gem

The Kyoto Ritz is a beautiful hotel. First class in every respect. Exactly what you would expect from a five star property.

Truly exceptional- one of the best 5* hotels I’ve stayed in.
