Look we really love this hotel, it’s old, quirky, in a lovely setting, the grounds are gorgeous to walk in. This was our second stay and we were upgraded to a suite over the function rooms. Well at 3.00am in the morning we were woken by chatter, scraping of furniture, general movement noise below us. Thought the place was haunted!! This lasted till about 4.30 am. Ruined our nights sleep.

Wonderful quiet convenient getaway on a business trip. Great restaurant, lovely surroundings. Remote, in a good way, but well connected to all of Yorkshire.

Understaffed! Breakfast was slow and delayed and no one at reception to check us out and provide an invoice in spite of waiting 10 minutes or so. Also say they will email bar receipts which never got sent.

The setting is beautiful and the staff amazing. We took our 2 Spaniels with us and stayed in a dog friendly suite. Room was huge and surprisingly warm considering it was a converted Castle. Breakfast in the morning was decent and you are within 25 mins of York. All in all a great trip and we will 100% stay here again.

The staff were wonderful! From the moment of arrival, to our too soon a departure, staff in every department were thoroughly welcoming, courteous and friendly. We highly recommend this hotel and cannot wait to return!

Had a wonderful stay here. Incredibly personal touch from all the staff referring to me by my name, which made me feel very comfortable. An incredible property rich in history, with a modern, well-equipped room to compliment it. Food options were extensive and delicious. Breakfast was great, very high quality, and very attentive staff. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

The staff were genuinely kind and very helpful, which we truly appreciated. There is, however, some room for improvement in the amenities, particularly given that the property is marketed as a luxury castle experience. Our room still had clothing from a previous guest, which affected the overall sense of cleanliness. While the stay was not unpleasant, based on our previous experiences in luxury castle hotels, this felt closer to a standard hotel experience rather than a true luxury offering.

Quite a nice hotel, but room was small and bathroom a little tired. Small annoyances such as having to put the kettle on the floor to plug it in.

Beautiful property, nice grounds. Very quiet. Rooms are nice and comfortable.

It was totally magical staying at the castle. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. It was marvelous exploring the castle and grounds. The road to get there is narrow and bumpy, but once you’re there it is worth it! We had a lovely breakfast in the little restaurant. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer.

I had an absolutely fantastic time at that hotel! It was a truly wonderful night.

Beautiful property and landscaping. Really kind staff, hard-working, but slow service. Which is fine if you are up for a long relaxed meal. Probably a little understaffed.. Everyone worked very hard. Room was very nice but a little dated the bed was slightly soft for my comfort but very rich and historic site.

Great location, food good , room fine but bathroom/shower room could do with a refresh.

Stayed here recently and was really impressed. The hotel is in a great location – surprisingly quiet despite being just off the A64, with easy access to the A1(M), making it perfect for road trips or business travel. The grounds are beautiful, well-maintained, and offer a peaceful setting to relax in. There’s also ample parking, which made everything so much easier. All the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. A special shout-out to Alice and Jen in the restaurant – their service was absolutely fabulous! Friendly, attentive, and made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this hotel for a peaceful stay with excellent service, beautiful surroundings, and great convenience. Will definitely return!
