Learn the art of surfboard shaping during this three hour workshop that will see you craft your own shortboard to perfection with the help of world champion surfers and board builders. Come along to meet the team and enjoy a welcome beverage as you sit down ideate your design and help bring your dream surfboard a reality. Utilising 3D surfboard technology, watch as your surfboard concept comes to life and begins to take shape from a block of foam to a masterpiece cut to shape. Next, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and learn how to use the shaping tools with experts guiding you at each step. Once complete, the resin finish will be applied and the surfboard will be delivered to your door within 4 to 6 weeks. The Surfboard Shaping workshop covers the fundamentals of board design including: learning the characteristics of what your surfboard can do and hands-on experience using shaping tools and 3D software. Your options are limitless when it comes to your dream surfboard; from 5ft Fish, Hybrid and Shortboard alternatives, through to 7ft Cruisers and Step-ups for those big days or lazy paddlers!

Itinerary

Concept - 9am: Meet the team, ideate your design and learn the process. Whatever your greatest surfboard desires, this is the moment your journey begins

Design - 9:30am: Yourself and the world-class shapers will sit down to utilise the 3d surfboard software to bring your concept to life

Create - 10am: Machine operators walk and talk you through the journey. Your board will begin to take shape; from a block of foam, to cutting your masterpiece using our cnc machine

Shape - 11am: At this point, you will have cut foam in hand. This is when you'll hop into the shaping bay with the team and get your hands on the tools. The shapers will show you the ropes, teaching you the ins and outs of using shaping tools, as well as educating you on board anatomy, contours, and refinements. Not to forget, finalising it with your own insignia

Enjoy - 4-6 weeks: Once complete, resin finish will still need to be applied. Your craft will be kept and taken to the trusted laminator before it is sent to your door within 4-6 weeks

This experience is three hours in duration

Runs from 9am to 12pm

This experience is located at the Miami S-Lab on the Gold Coast at 36 Lemana Ln, Miami QLD 4220.

What To Bring

You will be on your feet for most of the day and things can get a bit messy so be sure to wear closed-toe shoes and something you're comfortable getting dusty.

Additional Information

This experience runs in all weather conditions.

This experience is wheelchair accessible.

Please note: The resin finish will still need to be applied after the workshop, so your board will need to be held and taken to the laminator. There is a four-week turnaround, but this can vary depending on demand. When it's ready, this experience includes complimentary board delivery to your door.

Terms And Conditions

This workshop requires no prior surfing or shaping experience

Children 8+ years are welcome to come to sessions, but they must have an accompanying adult with them unless it is specified

It is not recommended that pregnant women do this workshop, due to the chemicals within the resins

Cancellation Policy

Change your booking up to 72 hours before the start time of your experience

Changes are not permitted within 72 hours of your experience

Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience

Booking Information

If you can't make your booking, please contact the experience provider with 72 hours notice and they will work with you to schedule your workshop at no extra cost.

There are no minimum participants for this booking to go ahead. However, the experience provider limits the numbers on each workshop for a more personal experience.
