The Keswick Country Hotel is an old building, with lots of character. The staff were all incredibly helpful. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel in 2024, and were keen to return. This time, we paid for half board. We were so glad we did. The food was superb. The breakfast was amazing - the items on the hot counter were being topped up so regularly that it didn't matter whether we went early or later, there was always plenty of food. The evening meal was also excellent. The menu varied from day to day, with a wide selection of meat, fish and vegetarian options. As a Coeliac, I have to stick to a rigid gluten free diet, and I often dread eating out because of the risk of being 'glutened'. But there was no need to worry at the Keswick Hotel. I've never been so well looked after. The whole team were aware of my gluten free diet, and I never had to explain it to any of them. Before I could ask, they were explaining to me what food I could have, and how the chef could vary almost all the dishes to make them gluten free. The person who showed us to our table each day had a special sheet, edited by the chef, showing everything I needed to know about any dishes that might have gluten. I have never felt so reassured in any restaurant since I was diagnosed in 2007. Free parking (in Keswick!) was also very useful. We had a lovely room, with a stunning view of Latrigg and Skiddaw(?). When the room needed servicing, it was done very quickly and discretely. Well done Keswick Country Hotel.

Great location real old style hotel in beautiful grounds very very clean loverly staff friendly and helpful breakfast is a buffet with cereals,pastrys,fresh fruit,yogurt and cooked breakfast which is very good quality and cooked to a high standard you also get tea,coffee and fresh orange juice and tomato juice we would highly recommend this hotel to friends and family

Food and Staff Excellent. Lovely surroundings both in and out. Couldn't have been in a nicer place for a few days relaxation.

If you really like old style hotel, this is ok. My main complain is bed being too soft and no air condition. The location is ok, but still a bit far away from town center. The breakfast is good. TV is too small.

I have wanted to stay at this hotel ever since visiting Keswick as a kid. The hotel was marketed as being fancy, and from what I was told, recently heavily renovated. However apart from new bathrooms and some furnishings in the rooms and the downstairs area being painted, it really didn’t seem like it has had an overhaul that it desperately needs. We visited in the heatwave of 2026 and understandably the rooms had no air conditioning due to the age of the hotel (1800’s). However the room did not have an electric fan, and the windows are now only able to open 10cm each. The hairdryer sounded like it was about to explode. The furniture in the rooms is tatty and mismatched. The carpet was gross and we walked around on spare towels. Accessibility- this hotel requires walking both and up and down steps once exiting the lift to get to the rooms around the back of the property. Although we managed with small cases, I recommend asking for a more accessible room if you struggle with heavy lifting. Amenities- there was a bar and restaurant. We had breakfast each morning which was OK- think Holiday Inn standards. The bar prices seemed reasonable. There is an outside grass area with tables which was looked after well however could have done with path maintenance. Clientele- my friend and I are in our 30’s, most guests were of retirement age. Overall, this hotel is operated by a large international group- so don’t expect to find any small business charm or care here.

What kept Keswick Country House from one star is the old style charm of the hotel. The experience itself, however, was disappointing. We happened to be there during a heat wave for this part of the world. We also had a west facing room. I don't fault the hotel for not having A/C. It only needs it a few days a year. But I do fault it for not providing fans, particularly for guests in rooms facing west. The room was unbearably hot; we found it difficult to sleep even lying on top of the bed sheets. We also felt the amenities were bare-bone. This was one of 10 hotels we have stayed at during our UK visit. It is the first without a safe, luggage rack, refrigerator, or shampoo/conditioner. Every other hotel had 3 or 4 of these items. The pillows were rock hard, and the television was very small. It felt like little thought or effort was made to provide a comfortable experience for its guests.

For a 3 star hotel this ticks all the boxes great value excellent breakfast and a lovely set dinner menu that changes daily. Lovely friendly but professional staff and quiet location but still less than a 5 minute walk to town. You do need to book for dinner as this is a very popular restaurant. If I could find one fault it would be on a personal opinion only and that is that dinner service is to quick between courses but that’s because I like each course to go down before the next is served. But fantastic service and we will definitely be returning.

We've stayed here a few times now. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good with a variety of options for either cold or hot food. We had our evening meals as well which again had a nice selection and good portions. Has a bar and lovely lounges. Our room was lovely and clean. Already planning our next visit. Just a five minute walk into Keswick. There is free parking on site.

All staff were lovely, food excellent, disappointed in seeing the use of paper serviettes at the table. Bedroom was ok, clean but old and needs updating especially the bathroom. Obviously didn’t spoil our stay. Parking great.

The Keswick Country House Hotel is a gem, quietly tucked away with a short walk from the town centre, lovely walks, and beautiful grounds. The hotel was once connected by a railway, which is now part of the C2C bicycle trail, and lovely level walk, through breath taking scenery. The breakfast is great with a great choice of food, well cooked and presented, including Gluten Free options. We had no issues. Maybe a bit more thought about layout, to help avoid cross contamination (eg separation of cereals from non gluten items) and maybe the sausages could be GF? I have found GF sausages are very good, as 100% meat. just a thought. Although I am not a Coeliac myself, my daughter is. I was impressed with some of the the attention to detail, but a bit more choice and slight adjustment with ingredients, positioning and location of certain foods, would be a wow factor, for anyone struggling with an allergy. thank you. The rooms were well equipped, tidy and cleaned regularly. This is an interesting hotel with unique railway heritage. Highly recommended 9/10. The staff were exceptional, very friendly and helpful, I will look forward to our next visit and definitely enjoy this hotel again. Thank you
