I have wanted to stay at this hotel ever since visiting Keswick as a kid. The hotel was marketed as being fancy, and from what I was told, recently heavily renovated. However apart from new bathrooms and some furnishings in the rooms and the downstairs area being painted, it really didn’t seem like it has had an overhaul that it desperately needs. We visited in the heatwave of 2026 and understandably the rooms had no air conditioning due to the age of the hotel (1800’s). However the room did not have an electric fan, and the windows are now only able to open 10cm each. The hairdryer sounded like it was about to explode. The furniture in the rooms is tatty and mismatched. The carpet was gross and we walked around on spare towels. Accessibility- this hotel requires walking both and up and down steps once exiting the lift to get to the rooms around the back of the property. Although we managed with small cases, I recommend asking for a more accessible room if you struggle with heavy lifting. Amenities- there was a bar and restaurant. We had breakfast each morning which was OK- think Holiday Inn standards. The bar prices seemed reasonable. There is an outside grass area with tables which was looked after well however could have done with path maintenance. Clientele- my friend and I are in our 30’s, most guests were of retirement age. Overall, this hotel is operated by a large international group- so don’t expect to find any small business charm or care here.

What kept Keswick Country House from one star is the old style charm of the hotel. The experience itself, however, was disappointing. We happened to be there during a heat wave for this part of the world. We also had a west facing room. I don't fault the hotel for not having A/C. It only needs it a few days a year. But I do fault it for not providing fans, particularly for guests in rooms facing west. The room was unbearably hot; we found it difficult to sleep even lying on top of the bed sheets. We also felt the amenities were bare-bone. This was one of 10 hotels we have stayed at during our UK visit. It is the first without a safe, luggage rack, refrigerator, or shampoo/conditioner. Every other hotel had 3 or 4 of these items. The pillows were rock hard, and the television was very small. It felt like little thought or effort was made to provide a comfortable experience for its guests.

We had a great stay and the staff were very helpful and polite.

For a 3 star hotel this ticks all the boxes great value excellent breakfast and a lovely set dinner menu that changes daily. Lovely friendly but professional staff and quiet location but still less than a 5 minute walk to town. You do need to book for dinner as this is a very popular restaurant. If I could find one fault it would be on a personal opinion only and that is that dinner service is to quick between courses but that’s because I like each course to go down before the next is served. But fantastic service and we will definitely be returning.

We've stayed here a few times now. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good with a variety of options for either cold or hot food. We had our evening meals as well which again had a nice selection and good portions. Has a bar and lovely lounges. Our room was lovely and clean. Already planning our next visit. Just a five minute walk into Keswick. There is free parking on site.

Lovely clean room if a little dated,friendly and helpful staff from the front desk to housekeeping. Plenty of choices at breakfast including vegetarian. I could not fault it and really enjoyed my stay there

A friend advise us to try this hotel, because it was so good. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the bar staff. We will be sure to stay at the Country House Hotel, sometime in the future.

All staff were lovely, food excellent, disappointed in seeing the use of paper serviettes at the table. Bedroom was ok, clean but old and needs updating especially the bathroom. Obviously didn’t spoil our stay. Parking great.

The Keswick Country House Hotel is a gem, quietly tucked away with a short walk from the town centre, lovely walks, and beautiful grounds. The hotel was once connected by a railway, which is now part of the C2C bicycle trail, and lovely level walk, through breath taking scenery. The breakfast is great with a great choice of food, well cooked and presented, including Gluten Free options. We had no issues. Maybe a bit more thought about layout, to help avoid cross contamination (eg separation of cereals from non gluten items) and maybe the sausages could be GF? I have found GF sausages are very good, as 100% meat. just a thought. Although I am not a Coeliac myself, my daughter is. I was impressed with some of the the attention to detail, but a bit more choice and slight adjustment with ingredients, positioning and location of certain foods, would be a wow factor, for anyone struggling with an allergy. thank you. The rooms were well equipped, tidy and cleaned regularly. This is an interesting hotel with unique railway heritage. Highly recommended 9/10. The staff were exceptional, very friendly and helpful, I will look forward to our next visit and definitely enjoy this hotel again. Thank you

Great hotel, great food and great location

The room was clean, but overall the hotel felt dated and in need of refurbishment. There was noticeable wear and damage to the skirting boards and furnishings, and the same could be said for the third-floor corridors and the lift. While the bathroom was in slightly better condition, it still felt tired and could do with updating. There was also no fridge in the room. The walls were extremely thin, meaning noise from neighbouring rooms carried very easily. I’m not usually a light sleeper, but I can imagine this would be a significant issue for many guests. The bar area looked pleasant enough, although I didn’t use it myself. I also chose not to have breakfast, as the additional £18 per day for my two-night stay felt overpriced. On the positive side, the location is very good - it’s only a short walk into the town centre, with two lovely parks nearby. There’s also a scenic walk to Threlkeld along the converted railway line, which starts near the leisure centre just a couple of minutes away. The route is around 6.4 miles there and back. Overall, I feel I would have been better off spending a little extra to stay somewhere of a higher standard. Even a Premier Inn would likely have been an improvement. The main advantage of the Keswick Country House Hotel was the included on-site parking.

Clean room, friendly staff. Nice bar and great breakfast. We had a lovely time and will definitely be back. Sitting out at night watching the bunnies on the lawn was a nice suprise too.

All the staff were extremely helpful, the hotel was beautifully decorated and furnished and the rooms were lovely. Only a five minute walk into town and some lovely restaurants and bars. Throughly recommend whether you want to relax in Keswick or walk the surrounding hills. The boat trip was lovely and very reasonable, gave access to some pretty spots including the walk Cat Bells.

This hotel is in an excellent location in Keswick and the staff were very helpful. The bar area was large and relaxing. However, the room, apart from the carpets, was tired and needed refurbishment. There was a black mould around the wooden windows. The shower unit was yellow with age. Even the toilet paper was thin and cheap. The breakfast was adequate, but the orange juice in particular, was like coloured water. Given the much higher price compared to local b&bs, we were disappointed with the overall experience.

Our room was 205 room needs a bit of an upgrade plus the floor was running on a slant so if you moved on the bed to quick you could fall out on to the floor apart from that everything was fine staff very helpful food was good I know it's an old building but these things matter also we would have no hesitation coming back to stay again maybe just another room thanks
