We stayed at Minister Loft for three nights in June. Our tastes may be different from most, so though we loved it, be aware that it is up several steep and narrow flights of stairs. This is an attic apartment, with windows that look out to York Minster on one side, and over the old city on the other. The big church is only about a hundred yards away, and so close that it takes three camera frames to catch in in panorama. When the carillon cranks up, it is an event! Ceilings are slanted and low, with wonderful old wood beams protruding; tall people like me need to remain alert. The kitchenette and bathroom are up to date. Minister Loft is delightful if being in a historic space is your cup of tea, and this was the favorite of our places that we stayed while travelling in England and Scotland.
50 stairs separate the loft from street level but the view is great. Nice views from all the windows except the one that opens onto the roof, which you might expect. The apartment isn't for tall people though and above 5'8" might be a little cramped. My wife and i now know how Quasimodo got his hump. That said I would not hold it against the nicely laid out apartment with its exposed 300 year old wood beams. A lovely place to stay right in the heart of the old city and immersed in history. Easy access to all the major attractions.
In summary I would say its nice and quiet, very secure and safe and easy access to shopping, attractions and pubs. I will be back in the future..
