DO NOT BOOK TO STAY AT THIS HOTEL IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE! We needed a cheap and cheerful hotel in Hove as we were visiting friends who do not have the space to put us up so we just needed a bed to sleep in for a few nights, the X Hotel seemed to fit the bill. In reality it is actually called New Brunswick Hotel. Earlier in the day I had received a communication from the hotel offering for us to check in so that they could provide us with access codes as there are no people available to do this in person. This ‘check-in’ procedure included having to send ID verification for all guests and the cost for doing this would be £4.97 pp. In addition to this, they advised us that if we checked in after 6pm there would be a £25 “late check-in” fee….none of this was mentioned at the time of booking! After a torturous process checking in we entered the room and were absolutely horrified. It was a filthy, dirty room with a sofa bed (no bedding). There was a wardrobe in the room with only one door, the other door was on the roof of the ‘ensuite’ bathroom, a make shift room. Everything was filthy with blood stains all over, it was full of mould & smelly. There was debris everywhere. As we left the room we spotted the fire extinguisher which we inspected only to find a notice on it from a fire inspection in August last year saying it needed to be replaced as it was condemned! The place is a death trap and should be closed! Needless to say we did not stay..nor should you!

Do not believe everything you see. This Hotel is false advertising what the bedrooms look like. I asked and paid well for a four poster bed, and didn’t get that. The whole system is online, there isn’t anybody at the hotel to speak to, and the rooms themselves were falling apart. So having to walk up 5 flights of stairs after a long day. The last thing you need is to be disappointed when reminded how terrible your room is.

Would not recommend. Loose and broken flooring, first on the floor you could feel on your feet. Had to keep shoes on all the time. Mould in the silicon in the bathroom, exposed electrical wiring. Very unusual booking process, be aware if you found this place as slightly cheaper, by the time you have paid the extras it won’t be. You will also be sent continuous reminders about the same things, to pay the extras and register for the booking. They charge a per person fee for this and require ID to be loaded up.

I didn’t stay in the room and I am trying to get my money back through my credit card.

SCAM! This company is a fraud. They took my money for my booking. Then charged me an extra £8 for ?deposit, then a further £4.97 deposit without explanation via an AI bot. They then called me the day before the booking to cancel it. When I asked why they said 'technical error' gave no explanation and barely understood English. They then said they would refund what was paid, but instead charged my card for a further £100 I have raised this with my bank and will be activating the fraud case. Be aware people, it may look cheap but the company is an AI scam!

The room I booked was nothing like the photos. I booked a standard room with an en-suite which included a living space and Netflix for the tv. The room was tiny, 2 of us could barely move with the bed in the room, the bathroom was fine but the floor was abit outdated. The tv also didn’t include Netflix. Not exactly what I paid for but did the job for the night

The only things nice is how close is to the sea side, need to be careful for any extra charges, thankfully my bank didn’t let the transaction go through and sent me a new card, but still was able to stay without paying those charges (almost £140)

DO NOT BOOK TO STAY HERE. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. Not one aspect. Extortionate. Price and picture on site, do not match at all! The room, was dingy, dirty, unkept and the drain smelt. lots of things were broken, dented and looked unfinished. It looked like a bad case of DIY mishaps, including the smell. Check in was not seamless and received 7 emails from the hotel in the space of 20 mins! I reported the one light in our room as broken, flashing on and off, ( faulty wiring) you could see it. None of my messages were responded too! We have taken pictures/videos. On at least 2 occasions they broke health & safety. No working fire alarm and a discarded mattress and frame in the hallway at the top of the stairs, blocking part of the access route. If there was other availability in other hotels we would've left but had no choice to stay. One couple in the hall were having troubles checking in, and could not get a response from the whatsapp line. This hotel should not be on the market to book. Hotels.com need to VET this property.

Absolutely awful experience, I checked-in via whatsapp as requested and arrived for the specific check-in time at 4pm. The hotel is reception-less and self check-in with no staff present and all communications are made through whatsapp. After arriving I was told "The room won’t be ready, until 6:30pm" Not ideal but decided to wait. At 6:30pm I tried again at the hotel to then be told "We just spoke with the cleaner the property won’t be available until 8:30pm" I replied to say this was unacceptable and was then informed my room wasn't available with an accompanying message from the hotel saying "Sorry is nothing we can do". I have been chasing for a refund since (3 days) and am yet to receive a reply or any help from hotels.com. In addition we spoke to some other guests entering & leaving the hotel and was repeatedly told how hideous the rooms are and not like the pictures. If I can offer any advice please do not even consider booking this hotel. I've never experienced anything like this before and hope someone else doesn't have togo through the same experience. Hotels.com shame on you, this hotel needs removing from your site immediately, I would expect better from a trusted booking platform like this.

Never stay here, Never book this hotel - I actually can't even be bothered to list how bad this was. From start to finish just dreadful, plus they charged me twice and i am still fighting for a refund. Never normally bother with a review , but I just couldn't stay silent .

Very basic and everything had to be done by texting couldn’t speak to a real person Spent a long time trying to get entrance to the building. I had to get another guest to do it for me. Many people were in the same situation.

Our room was cancelled at the last minute and was never sent a code for the door disgusting

The place was very unclean bed did not have a quilt cover quilt was turning brown and had long standing stains pillows had stains microwave was rusted, very strange smell within the property. Was charged £15 more than the price stated on an external website but for the price i shouldnt really be expecting too much so close to the centre

If I could give it zero stars I would. An absolute shambles of a place. Do not bother staying here. We are disabled and were put on the 5th floor with no access to a lift. None of bedrooms advertised online was not what we stayed in. The windows were moldy, broken, held together by tape, gap at the bottom so constant draft coming through. No soap provided in the bathroom, no mat in the shower my husband nearly slipped. No one to speak to on the front desk as everything is done via WhatsApp. Completely disconnected from any human interaction and basic hotel quality. Absolutely disgusting. Just don't bother.

Absolutely appalling experience — avoid this hotel at all costs. I was wrongly charged twice for two rooms, and there is no effective way to contact anyone to resolve it or obtain a refund. I had already paid in advance and was told I would only need to pay an additional £20 on arrival, which turned out to be completely untrue. Instead, I was hit with a series of unexpected and unexplained charges, including check-in fees and a deposit that were never clearly communicated beforehand. The service was equally poor. The receptionist was entirely unhelpful and unable to provide any assistance when I questioned the additional charges — I got no clarity, no support, and no resolution. The rooms themselves were in a shocking condition. One smelled strongly of sewage and had visible holes in the walls. The second room was no better — equally run-down and unacceptable. To make matters worse, we had to climb five flights of stairs with no lift, which was incredibly inconvenient. We also attempted to arrange parking in advance, but received no response. There is no working contact number for the hotel — only an AI chatbot, which is useless for resolving real issues. On top of everything, there are excessive and unreasonable extra fees — even for minor things like marking a towel or filling a bin. It feels like a deliberate attempt to squeeze as much money as possible from guests. To add to the frustration, Hotels.com refused to assist in recovering the unfair charges.

Not sure why so many negative reviews, room was clean and tidy. Shower was lovely, cracking location, cant grumble for the orice

I think if you’re looking for an affordable place to stay and just need somewhere to sleep, it’s a great option. You can check in online and then get in when you get in, which worked very well for me. The room itself needs a little fixing up, the sink had a massive crack down the middle, the bed was broken and the whole floor seemed to slope sideways. But other than that it was a pretty nice hotel and a really affordable night. Ideal for solo travelers

I appreciate is a 2 stars hotel but the sink was dripping, the shower wasn’t properly tight the remote control was covered in a weird sticky substance and the room actually stinks Just list it the way it is.

Customer service was basically non existent especially when I had issues with my booking

The shops was near by the room was very nice and clean only thing no lift and my room was on 5th floor did not manage the stairs to well would stay again if on lower floor good location and near buses
