Unique experience for an affordable price
My husband and I stayed at Casual Euro while exploring Nikko and felt it was a good value. It is away from the busy and noisy town, but easy to get to the temples by car. Our room was small and simple, with a western style bed, a small couch, refrigerator, small TV, toilet and sink. The shower is outdoors on the balcony. Since we were there during the spring, it was fine showering outside, and a pull down curtain ensured privacy. Not sure how comfortable it would be showering outside in the winter though.
The balcony also had a small private outdoor wooden onsen tub. It was nice soaking in the tub after a day of sightseeing, even though there's not much of a view from the tub (we had to pull down the curtain for privacy). The hotel also has a woman's and men's larger onsens and free access to another public onsen nearby.
We didn't have their buffet dinner, but we did have their buffet breakfast and really enjoyed it. They offered a wide selection of Japanese and western foods, making it easy to satisfy both my husband and my different and picky tastes. I'm a vegetarian, and particularly appreciated the wide selection of non-meat items, in addition to the many meat items.
Nearby the elevators was a modern european stylish lounge that had photo books and magazines that we enjoyed flipping through while we sipped tea from the dispenser. The hotel front desk also offered us great discount deals for the Tobu World Square and the Edo Wonderland which were on our trip itinerary. Helped to pay for the cost of the hotel!
Overall, we enjoyed and were happy with our stay at Casual Euro and would stay there again, although perhaps not during the winter.
