Austins Self Service Guest House

Easy access to the guest house and my room with a code. Very convenient location for attending an event at the Utilita arena. Regarding cleanliness there were some issues:-the carpets in the room and hallways are dirty, very worn chair in my room, dirt on wall and very dark stains on duvet and mattress protector that can be seen through the sheets. The bathroom facilities all looked very clean. Overall it’s a nice guesthouse.

Great value for money

Although the price seems reasonable, Austin's is not good value. It is more of a backpacker's hostel than any sort of a guest house. It is conveniently located across the river from the downtown, but there is no parking in the area except for permitted residents of the neighbourhood. The nearest paid parking is at the Sophia Gardens bus depot about 500 m away. Cost is ~ 25L per day. There are very few restaurants or other services in the immediate area (but would recommend the cafe across the river from the Sophia Garden car park for breakfast). But downtown is about a 10-15 minute walk. The shower doors on our unit were about to fall off and were difficult to close. Our bathroom sink's drain was plugged however there was a shared washroom for some other rooms a floor down. People coming and going can be rather noisy. There was a kettle in our room that appeared to not work until we discovered that the breaker for it was turned off. Carpet was dirty--almost to the level of "ikky".

Great guest house if you're on a budget. Certainly no frills, all self service but clean and well run place. V near city centre also

Stayed here for Oasis opening night so it was much more expensive than usual - wasn't everything! Super close to the stadium. Very clean. Didn't get the pre-arrival email but called the emergency line at the front door and was given the codes - really nice chap on customer service who was really helpful. Was expecting a two room apartment so he immediately sent someone over to make up the double sofa bed in the lounge. Has everything you need. Would use again if going to Principality Stadium.

Beautiful place

The staff and especially Kenan were always helpful and very friendly on the phone. The rooms are clean but the partitions between rooms as so thin that in the rooms with shared bathrooms, in one of the accommodations, everything that happens in the next room can be heard.

Good location & value but no staff on premises

Be careful staying at this property I booked this place through experia and paid £153.00 in March 2024 I was staying on the 15th of March 2025. For tonight. Then I notice on my bank account that £114.00 from my bank account without and warning. I have asked experia to sort this out without no result so Austin’s guesthouse has taken more money without warning me before. So be careful very careful I will not be booking this place again very unhapp.

Exactly what you’d expect and what you pay for, a nice little room, clean and very secure. Very close to the city centre

Lights did not work outside the room. Heater did not work in the room. Everything was fixed after my call

Despite initial problems gaining an access code, I had a pleasant stay in a simple, no nonsense room with all that was needed. Central location is excellent.

Comfortable room, as usual, except that the radiator didn’t work and there was no other form of heating on a very cold night!

Small flat in a townhouse nearby the city center. No staff. Keys by your phone- every thing works 👍

Shortage of cutlery and bed collapsing

This is a very reasonable and nice place to stay for the price. Upon arrival, I was confused about which property I would be staying in, but after opening the doors and reading the signs posted inside, it’s very straightforward. The woman next to me did not have a code for her room and struggled to reach anyone at ~9pm, so, if you’re reading this, make sure you have your code ahead of time. The rooms are small and quaint. The only two complaints I had were that the bed was extremely uncomfortable, and that there is a shower in the room, but no toilet. The second point is mostly a mild inconvenience, but the bad part is that, because the flooring in the room is carpeted, it leaves a bit of a wet smell which goes away after a few hours but still leaves me feeling as if there may be a mold issue under the carpet. Despite these issues, I had a nice time and found it well worth the price. Diolch!

Having the option of this room made my life so much easier, plus the location… the only reason I took off a star was because of the bed, they need to change the bases round as the one at the top of the bed was broken, which didn’t really help my sciatica, but apart from that, would definitely come back!
