Bathroom too small to use the sink without the door in your way, very uncomfortable, old mattress, towels smell like vinegar, room smelled of rot and feces, adjoining doors transfer fully audible conversations from next door, fire alarm went off 3 times in 4 days leading to much lost sleep and when made to evacuate there was no security at the muster point to keep the zombie crackheads from harassing partially clothed guests, putting people in further danger. All for the low price of $800/night with a generous gold upgrade for a mere $179/night.

Staff are wonderful. The hotel itself is a landmark and the location is perfect for travellers coming in from the UP Express airport train.

Our room was not accessible from the lobby. We had to use the elevators by the subway station which felt like we were off property and not at a beautiful historic hotel. The walls were paper thin, we could hear every single cough, fart and conversation in adjacent rooms and in the hallway all day and night. I’ve wanted to stay here since I was a little girl, and it felt like I was sleeping on a bench in union station. Very disappointing and over priced.

The room was very dated, especially the bathroom. Not in a charming historic way, it was as if the bathroom was poorly renovated in the 1980s and not touched since. The sink faucet was too short so it was difficult to wash your hands without constantly touching the sink itself (gross), the toilet looked like the type of toilet you'd find in a shopping mall bathroom with an industrial flushing function, and the water pressure in the shower was quite variable and very low at times.

Always love staying here. Clean, near the go, near lot of places for walking. Biggest con for me is the coffee is weak. Tea is great, and humus is so good. Bring your own nespreso pods and milk for the room, saves money. I always forget Gym is proper with machines, rack, kettlebells, cardio, that rack for pull ups, cables Con with gym: guest bring their kids in to run around is abit annoying. Beware of this.

Some rooms are quite dated. I had to move rooms as there was the lingering smell of stale cigarette smoke coming from the in-room HVAC. Was upgraded to another newer room, but the beds were not comfortable. I travel a lot of for business and have stayed at many fairmont hotels, most recently Chateau Laurier in Ottawa which was better than this in service and comfort. Maybe I just had bad luck.

It was our first time at this property and the staff did not disappoint. From check-in to our departure, every member of the team that we met was polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. The central location downtown made it easy to hit all the highlights within walking distance and access to the underground PATH network was particularly enjoyable on one of the rainy days. I must say the one most disappointing factor is the sheer number of cigarette butts littering the sidewalk at the main entrance to this spectacular structure. While unfortunately, all of this is from the patrons staying at this property. It falls upon the Fairmont Royal York to ensure that the property remains spectacular at all times. From a distance, i was in awe as we approached the property only to have to walk across a sea of discarded cigarette butts when entering the front doors. For this reason alone, I would reconsider my options when visiting Toronto. It is something that can easily be fixed with regular ongoing attention and if done I would definitely stay at the Fairmont once again.
