The room was small but bright and cheery. The staff was helpful and the property is conveniently located. However, this also does mean that we got woken up a few times during the night by passers by in the streets who are loud and "cheerful". But I'd still go back to stay there, it's a beautiful property.

Everything was absolutely perfect. The room was so clean I would have thought I was the first person staying there. Staff were amazing and the breakfast was exceptional. I really cannot think of a single fault.

Well placed in Centre of York with the Minster a short walk away. Comfortable rooms. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff.

The positives: This hotel is in a GREAT location, and the staff was friendly. The included breakfast was nice. The negatives: The room was the tiniest room I have EVER seen in my life - no place to even leave a suitcase open. The bed was the only place with room to open it, so I had to get out what I wanted and zip it back up each time. If that had been the only issue, I would be rating this better, however, this room was FILTHY, with huge piles of dust and giant wads of other people's hair all over the floor and shower. The room had definitely not been dusted, swept, or vacuumed in a very long time. The kettle was so caked with grime, it was unusable. Also note: no AC and no lift

Lovely hotel right in the centre, only drawback being noisy outside. Slight improvements in our room 9 would be a towel rail for the hand towel and hooks for bath towels. Also a mirror needed in the bedroom, only one being in the bathroom. Nice breakfast, good choice, would stay again.

The room was tired & not that clean but was better than the first room they offered to shoehorn us into ( both tall) both rooms would benefit from some strong cleaning products, the bed was clean but uncomfortable , two singles pushed together the right side (mine) needs replacing. Nice view from room & lovely & quiet would be amazing with a bit of a refurb. Not a great shower , tiny bottle of bod wash & shampoo, good tea selection & semi skim milk a couple of biscuits. Nice clean white towels. We had to ask for more but no problem they were left outside our room while out. The breakfast was excellent both days, lots of choice & good produce, lovely staff & a rare treat to be served till 11.30 if you want a relax. Good location we came by train, would probably not stay again due to all the old decor & clutter needing replacing. Rose was a lovely member of staff.

Fantastic location in the heart of York. A two minute walk to shops, the shambles or the cathedral. The breakfast on site was delicious too.

The room was tiny but but obviously cared for with so much love. Galtres Lodge just feels like a place that was created with love and intention. Breakfast was wonderful. The bed was comfy and the view was just gorgeous. Absolutely worth the stay!

Breakfast was fresh and very tasty. I stayed on the very top floor. There is no elevator, so if you have heavy luggage, you might want to stay on a lower floor. I loved the exposed beams and charming decor. The bathroom was clean, but small. I was traveling alone, so it was not an issue for me. The best part was the location! It was close to the Minster, Shambles and the wall. If I return to York I would stay here again.

Hotel in historic York city centre with shops on all sides. Generally clean. Rooms and dining room quirky and charming. Dogs welcome.

This is my second time at the Galtres, extremely clean and quiet is located right beside York Minster, the quality of the food at the restaurant is excellent, the people working there are very kind and helpful, a couple of things bothered me a little: there was no light on top of the mirror and no plug for the air dryer in the bathroom, and when taking a shower there is no shelf to put the soap on, so it becomes very uncomfortable try to reach for the soap around the shower, other than that it is a great place to stay.

Clean warm room greeted us on arrival. Wide breakfast choice available. Hotel in the middle of a bustling street full of differing shops , even with a room above the street noise was not an issue
