Great place to stay when in York. Excellent in all aspects!

No fresh fruit, cereal or pastries option for breakfast, just a cooked breakfast which was okay but not if you are watching your calories. Room too rustic for my liking and in great need of a shower upgrade. However, the location couldn't be better.

Clean and comfortable room. Location was great for walking and seeing York.

The location is superb. Easy walk from the train and then you’re right in the heart of the city. Staff are friendly and nothing too much trouble. The bedroom and en-suite were lovely but the only issue I had was the bed in Room 2 was really uncomfortable. I don’t usually notice these things but it did detract. The duvet was also wafer thin on a cool night. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very generous. I had dinner there too and the salmon was exceptional.

Great room, clean and perfect for what we required. Staff were excellent, breakfast was lovely. The location was great, very central making it easily walkable to all bars, restaurants and attractions.

The location of the hotel is great York Minster 2 minute walk away, room great for our needs and Breakfast was lovely. Only issue is the noise from the front of the hotel we had a room at the front and could hear everything plus why the rooms windows were being cleaned at 7.30am was bit of a shock.

Excellent location, fantastic Yorkshire full breakfast, but the mention “parking available” is confusing, as you must walk 10 minutes from the private owned parking to the hotel with your luggage, and pay an extra GBP 27.00 for one night.

Perfect location, clean and comfortable rooms, super helpful staff and a delicious breakfast each morning.

I loved staying here! It is right in the heart of Old York, around the corner from York Minster and the Shambles. For a listed property, it had modern washrooms and comfy bed. There are no lifts, mind, so if you are not comfortable going up and down narrow stairs, this is not the property for you. Also, you will probably need to walk to the location, as it is in the historic part of York. If you do like a historic lodge with helpful staff, right in the middle of the action, where you can walk everywhere and hear the bells of the Minster, this is the place. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choices. I would love to come again in the future!

Liked the breakfast and great location

The hotel was beautiful and the staff catered to our every need, however, I have recently had surgery and searched for a hotel with parking. The Galtres showed up and we book but the car park was 8 minutes walk away and the parking was over £30 for the night. Unfortunately, I was with my mother who has an arm injury and so we had to carry our bags this distance. Normally it would not have been an issue but I was very unwell upon arrival as the bag was not on wheels and I had my stitches taken out that morning. I would suggest not advertising the hotel to have parking, but cannot fault the hotel for any other reason. We would come back to stay in the future (in full health or bring a smaller bag!)

Amazing room location & the breakfast was out of this world! The staff were so helpful & a happy retirement to our lovely waitress! Booking afain for halloween & xmas market. See you soon.

Very central for visitors.

Located in a very beautiful location within walking distance of several points of interest, such as The Shambles, York Minster, the City Walls, bars, and restaurants. The breakfast served in the morning is truly exquisite. The room and the hotel in general seemed very clean, in excellent condition despite being an old building, and safe. The attention and friendliness of the front desk and breakfast staff were exceptional!

Great smaller hotel right in the heart of it all! A few steps away from everything you’d want/need in York, friendly staff, nice breakfast…a great place I’d unquestionably stay at again!

I was super impressed with this hotel. It couldn’t have been more central. I was a bit cobwebby but with it being high ceiling and an old building, it’s to be expected. The room was cosy and breakfast was stunning. Thank you, would def stay here again!
