Bull Inn

Had a very nice stay at the Bull Inn. Dinner was great and the room was very nice

A lovely well appointed room, albeit very “cosy”, and the bathroom/shower facilities were excellent. A well cooked delicious breakfast was served in the library, and the staff were wonderful throughout, despite being incredibly busy. The only downside for me were the stairs to the rooms, as they are very steep and narrow, but overall we had a very enjoyable stay here.

The building is very old. With this comes issues with either a very steep staircase up to the rooms or use of an emergency exit at the rear (which is made of metal steps with a precarious old mat dangerously situated at the top). The room was lovely but it was very hot as situated above the kitchen. The weather was forecasted to be 28/29 degrees and I had to ask for a fan. It was a struggle to sleep in such temperatures as the fan was noisy so had to be switched off. In the morning I was greeted by a delightful member of breakfast staff. She went out of her way to be helpful. My choice of smashed avocado was quite a surprise. I’m not sure who was in charge but to receive an old browning avocado ‘chopped’ into cubes with 2 poached eggs thrown on top - presentation was definitely not their fortay! It was inedible other than the eggs that were fine. It’s such a shame as with an injection of money and some staff training for the breakfast chef (previous evening meal was fine) - the hotel could be attracting more custom. It was pretty empty for a Bank holiday weekend.

Excellent welcoming staff and great rooms and food

How do you expect business people to use your facility ,have breakfast after 7.30 and still get into Reading at a sensible time? The stairs are dangerous point blank Adding padding to low ceiling beams whilst helpful doesn’t stop you hitting your head despite no signs anywhere. The hallways are impossible to move suitcases through them.The parking is cramped and difficult to reverse out off. Oh and locking doors is never a good fire precaution for people with impairments. Safe to say never again

Very friendly staff, beautiful food, good value, a huge, comfortable bed. Beautiful setting, lovely beer and wine. The room was really quirky and well decorated and the ensuite was too. Nothing not to like.

This is a fantastic place to stay on The Thames. Beautiful rooms, great pub and a fantastic bartender Ray. Breakfast included and it was delicious. Highly recommend

If you are looking for a historic pub to stay in this is the place. Built in the 1500’s yet clean and modern inside. Food was wonderful and staff was very helpful.

What a delightful stay in this ancient inn. All the staff we encountered were friendly & helpful and seemed genuinely pleased to look after us. Our bedroom was bijou but very well thought out with switches in the right place and plenty of sockets. A free welcome drink at bar was greatly appreciated. Dinner was tasty and breakfast was great, freshly cooked to order. We would most definitely stay here again, although I imagine it might be quite noisy on a summer’s evening.

A wonderful welcome and our room was lovely. The dining area was busy with both residents and local people. The menu offered a good variety and food arrived very hot and well presented. We wouldn’t hesitate to return but would advise that the age of the building means that stairs are very steep and the floors are uneven.

We had a lovely stay at The Bull. The history of the building and the quirky slopes and design features all added to the charm. The beds were super comfortable and the room very clean and well decorated. only downside was the limited parking which we knew about and the noise from people in the pub below, but you would expect this staying above a pub:)
