San Diego Downtown Lodge

Our flight was abruptly cancelled at 11:30 pm that night so we had very few choices for hotels to stay at that weren’t outrageously expensive and the hotel we’d booked for our other days stay was full for the night. When we arrived to this hotel, the check-in area wreaked of isopropyl alcohol, the smell was harshly offensive. We finally get to our assigned room and the toilet is dirty and had clearly not been cleaned making us question the sanitation of the rest of the room. The curtains had brown stains on them and the lamp shades were torn. There were also ants in the bathtub. We presented our concerns with the staff and they gave us another room, but it wasn’t much better. The hand towels were blood stained, and many other signs of the place being generally unkept.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS PROPERTY. I am not someone who usually writes reviews, however my stay here was not enjoyable. The room was dirty with spiders, holes in the wall and furniture and dirt covered floors. The location is unsafe and nearby the freeway so there is constant road noise. The room looked nothing like the advertised pictures. Sheets had holes in them and there was only one light fleece blanket on the bed. Towels were thin, stained and slightly bigger than a hand towel in size. Everything was damaged and dirty from the shower curtain, towel racks, furniture, walls and doors. Parking was limited and difficult to access. Staff were unresponsive when Expedia reached out to address these concerns. You would be better off to stay just about anywhere other than this hotel.

I had an issue with my ID and the front desk person was very accommodating and was able to confirm my stay.

Read the other reviews and do not stay here. Booked two nights, walked in and walked straight back out. Have not responded to requests for even a partial refund to cover the alternative hotel we had to book. Dirty and unsafe!

For the price, this place was great. Nice friendly staff and clean room.

Tiene una excelente ubicacion, y el precio es muy bajo. Como es comun hay mucho homeless alos alrededores. Pero para dormir esta relativamente bien, aunque el de recepcion no habla español.

Didn’t like the parking situation. A guest parked behind my vehicle which created a big delay in me leaving. Also, the bathroom sink is not located in the bathroom- very strange. And there was a guest there with a dog that was barking constantly, in a room by the stairs.

The front picture of the property is very misleading. This picture is not close to where this hotel is, or near Little Italy. Pros: Our room was pretty big but the tv was too small. Lobby guy was super nice. Cons: There is very limited parking spaces, which we ended up having to pay next door which sucked. The floors in the room were really dirty. No elevator

1 Star – Would Not Recommend I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at the Downtown San Diego Lodge was disappointing on multiple levels. The room felt extremely outdated and not well maintained — stained carpet, peeling paint, and a musty odor that hit as soon as we walked in. The bed was uncomfortable, and the sheets didn’t feel very clean. Noise was another major issue. Being downtown, I expected some city noise, but this was next-level — loud traffic, people yelling outside all night, and paper-thin walls that offered zero sound insulation. The biggest red flag was the general feeling of lack of security. The parking lot was sketchy, and there didn’t seem to be any real staff presence after hours. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my belongings in the room. Location is about the only decent thing — you can walk to a lot of nearby restaurants and bars — but for the price, there are definitely better and safer options in San Diego. Definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

Usually, I appreciate a couple nights stay at any hotel in San Diego, although I am homeless? However, I don't like inconvience by being a guest.

The hotel is situated right at the exit and entrance to the freeways which is challenging for ingress and egress and can get loud (traffic) an lots of homeless people in the area as well. Location is a good walk for getting to Little Italy and the Pier. The room was exactly what you need to get a good rest and sleep. Nothing fancy, very unfussy lodgings. This place minor updates,nothing impressive,what i call a lipstick update. Good clean, bathroom, bedroom, and bedding. Beware! This property does not have an ice machine nor vending machine on site. The front desk suggested I walk across to the gas station a block away to get what I needed. I was unaware of this before I booked. Also no coffee machines in the room. Urgh!!! Lastly, the parking lot is small and in an effort to accommodate all guests vehicles cars were double parked bumper to bumper. Urgh! I was not able to back out and leave at my convenience. I had to go to the front office, report the car number that I was blocked in by, and let the front desk know that I needed to exit. Then I had to wait for front desk to contact the car owner as well as wait for car owner to come move their car. This took about an extra 30+ minutes from the time I walked down to my car with luggage to leave. Very inconvenient for lodging we will stay away from this lodge. Not priced right.

Staff is friendly. Room was clean but dusty in some areas like air conditioning. The curtains were very dirty with spots of food. Very limited parking space.

Do not book here! These photos are so out of date. It looks nothing like the pictures. The room was absolutely disgusting and we couldn’t even get a refund to go somewhere else. There was hair everywhere, the floors were sticky and it’s so run down. There were holes in our sheets and blankets. When asked to get fresh sheets and towels, the said “well housekeeping left so I can’t do anything”. Ruined our weekend getaway. We felt so gross even after showering in the morning. This place will be getting reported to the health department. Not to mention the blood stain we found on the curtains. I think we would’ve been better off sleeping at the homeless encampment next door.
