This is a castle. It's beautiful and has a lot of history. Be ready for a room with no AC.

Amazing property but outdated rooms

Very relaxing and reinvigorating place. Make sure to stay at least 2 days to enjoy the magnificent lounge areas, excellent restaurant and beautiful surrounding forest

What a lovely stay. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. It was a very peaceful stay.

The hotel and grounds are beautiful - well worth staying a night. It's not everyday that you get to sleep in a former palace! The dining room, lounges, halls are ornately finished. The restaurant was expensive for dinner, but absolutely delicious. Breakfast is a wonderful buffet. Definitely eat on the terrace so you can enjoy the views of the forest and exterior of the building. It's probably the most beautiful outdoor dining I've ever seen. The only negatives are that the rooms are small and the bathrooms are tired and need to be updated. The WiFi doesn't work in the rooms, but you don't go to a place like this for the WiFi!

Instead of driving from Lisbon to Porto in one shot, we stayed overnight at the castle. WOW! Living in the US it is not uncommon to spend over $200 for a fairly plain room in a generic hotel located next to a highway. Our room cost less than that and it was in a BEAUTIFUL castle, surrounded by a forest with hiking trails, with nice gardens, and incredible living rooms and porches. I had seen mixed reviews of the dinner online... my wife and I had dinner and breakfast at the castle and the food and service were great... among the best we had during our 10-day trip to Portugal. It is about 2.5 hours from Lisbon, and about 1 hour from Porto. We arrived in Lisbon from the US, saw Lisbon for a few days, then took the train to Sintra. We rented our car in Sintra, and drove to the castle arriving around 5pm. Had a great time hanging in and around the castle, had a great dinner, and a great breakfast the next morning, and then headed off to Porto. So glad we did not visit a big city, and then do a long drive straight to another fairly big city. Bussaco Palace was the perfect place to pause in between Portugal's two big cities.

Fantastic hotel (it’s a Palace really) - staff great, although no air conditioning which normally isn’t an issue but with temp up in the high 30’s means sleeping on the top of the bedclothes is a requirement. Overall a fantastic place to stay.

Property needs some updates, such as new furniture in the seating area of the bar.

Its a wonderful palace. The grounds offer hiking trails. Rooms did not have AC, but open window was sufficient and provided nature sounds. Breakfast on the patio listenening to the birds was great.

A única observação é a falta de ar condicionado no quarto, o que fez muito calor. No verão nem o ventilador que nos arranjaram foi suficiente. O local é lindo e o staff muito simpático, principalmente no restaurante!

One time experience, old bathroom with rust, no air conditioning, no safe, no mini-bar. Don't understand how they received 5 stars.

The exterior of the hotel is beutiful and the historic atmosphere is unique. Unfortunately, my room did not meet the standard I would expect from a hotel of this category. While I understand that I was assigned one of the smaller rooms, it felt as though the room was not fully ready to be offered to guests. There was peeling paint, visible rust in the bathroom, and the toilet seat did not fit the toilet properly, making it uncomfortable to use. This is something I would not expect to encounter in a luxury hotel. The heating system was apparently out of service and a portable radiator had been provided instead. However, it was not sufficient to keep the room comfortably warm. Since my stay was in June, I could not help but wonder how comfortable the room would be during the colder months. I was also disappointed by the service in the restaurant, where one staff member came across as unfriendly and somewhat rude. The maintenance of some rooms and the consistency of service need significant improvement to match the reputation of the property. :::

Fantastisk ståndsmässig slottsmiljö att få bo i! Värt ett besök. Som man kan vänta sig i en så gammal byggnad så var inte allt supermodernt. Fina badrum - men svagt vattentryck. Hård säng och väntat att det ej fanns AC. Men om man t ex ställt en liten fläkt i vårt rum så hade det gjort stor skillnad. Dålig sovkomfort - men ändå värt ett besök. Viss träningsmöjlighet, hade tänkt springa långt i parken - men det var mkt upp o ner på stenunderlag så för att spara knät sprang jag runt runt ca en en km lång sträcka.

Dormir dans un palais 😍 Les jardins , la salle à manger , le salon … tout est magnifique. Le déjeuner buffet avec mimosa était très généreux . Un stationnement est disponible. Les chambres sont décorés dans le même style mais auraient besoin d’être rafraîchies. J’y retournerais sans hésitation

Great place. .l Everything looks and feels right - furniture, rooms, but the bedding is bad and cheap - awful synthetic pillows, etc

Although we read mixed reviews, we decided to stay at this unique hotel — and we are so happy we did. Upon arriving, we received a warm welcome and a short guided tour explaining the history of the place. Our room was very nice, and the bathroom was very big. We had to work in the evening, and the new Wi-Fi installed a few weeks ago was very strong and perfect for us. The palace is surrounded by a big forest and a garden, with many options for hiking. The restaurant was a bit expensive, but that is totally normal for a 5-star palace hotel restaurant. We enjoyed the food, and the service was excellent. Highly recommended.

Hotel 4 estrelas muito bonito . Quartos com mobilia antiga e limpo, TV no quarto ruim e Café da manha muito bom. Equipe muita atenciosa. Ana Raquel merece uma nota 10. Hotel recomendado
