During our four-night stay at the Althoff Palace Hotel, booked via the U.S. website, we were impressed by the facilities but deeply disappointed by the service standards, which fell well below expectations for a five-star property. From arrival, friendliness and professionalism were lacking compared to luxury hotels we regularly stay at, such as the Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, and Peninsula. We initially booked a suite but downgraded due to dissatisfaction with the room. A significant issue arose regarding smoking: we proactively asked staff for permission to smoke in the back garden and never smoked in the room. Despite this, management later accused us—rudely—of smoking indoors, creating an embarrassing and uncomfortable situation that was later disproven. Housekeeping and service were inconsistent. Despite requests, rooms were not cleaned when indicated, housekeeping arrived at 8:00 a.m. despite our jet lag, and room service trays were left in the room for an entire day. Upon moving rooms, we found the toilet improperly cleaned with visible residue, the TV not functioning, and overall poor attention to detail. While the spa staff, valet, and younger apprentices were professional and courteous, interactions with senior management were unfriendly and dismissive. The hotel has strong potential, but service quality, management conduct, and treatment of international guests—particularly Americans—require significant improvement.

Clean room. Comfortable bed. Big bath tub. Breakfast was super. Close to city of Bensberg.

We only stayed one night here to relax in the Spa after an eventful weekend. The service is really good and the hotel is quiet for its size. The spa area was very nice. Unfortunately, Vendôme was not bookable but their Italian restaurant was lovely. The breakfast was good, a lot of variety but we had better in other 5 star hotels. All in all we had a great time and would come again for a quiet getaway.

Schönes Schlosshotel, an einigen Stellen etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Der Gesamteindruck entschädigt aber für die kleinen Macken. Schöner Wellnessbereich, tolle Bar und tolles Ambiente.

Schloss Bensberg ist wirklich traumhaft schön & immer eine Reise wert! Wir waren eine Nacht zu unserem Hochzeitstag da. Das Personal war sehr freundlich & zuvorkommend & hat auch weitere Tipps außerhalb der Stadt in Richtung Eifel gegeben. Das Zimmer war sehr schön & das Bett war auch bequem. Das Frühstück bietet fast alles, was man sich wünscht. Leider jedoch für einen sehr stolzen Preis von 42€ pro Person. Dafür gab es allerdings noch nicht mal ein Glas Champagner oder zumindest Sekt zum Frühstück dabei & auch keine Eierstation, wo ein Koch Dir zum Beispiel ein Omelett zubereitet. Die Auswahl war sehr lecker & vielfältig & wir waren auch weltweit schon in vielen Tophotels mit wahnsinnig leckerem Frühstück (auch schon in Deutschland in vielen Schlosshotels dieses Segments), jedoch haben wir noch nie sooo viel für ein Frühstück bezahlt. Man kann schließlich nicht mehr als Essen! Des Weiteren haben wir einen Silber-Status bei Expedia, der das Frühstück & ggf. auch das Parken inkludiert. Leider war dem nicht so von Seiten des Hotels, wirklich sehr schade. Für einen Tag Parken haben wir dann auch nochmal 34€ bezahlt. Es gibt in der Stadt drum herum auch viele kleine Cafés & Restaurants, die leckeres Frühstück anbieten. Haben wir uns später dann mal angeschaut. Der Poolbereich ist wunderschön. Schön wäre es natürlich auch noch, wenn es draußen bei den Liegen auch noch einen Pool geben würde. Nichts desto trotz kommen wir gerne wieder zurück ins dieses schöne Hotel.

Der Empfang wollte unsere Kreditkarte mit 50 € pro Nacht „Kaution“ belasten. Eigentlich normales Prozedere, wie man es aus jedem Hotel kennt. Leider wurde meine Kreditkarte mit über 530€ belastet bzw vorgemerkt! Niemand war in der Lage, das zu korrigieren. Dreimal habe ich mich dazu erkundigt, weil seitens des Hotels keine Antwort kam. Da keiner der Mitarbeitenden ein Namensschild trägt, kann ich noch nicht mal die Namen der Mitarbeiter benennen, mit denen ich gesprochen habe. Es hat seitens des Hotels auch niemand wirklich interessiert.

Det er umuligt med få ord at beskrive dette hotel. Det er en totaloplevelse og aldeles perfekt på alle måder. Uhyre venlig og effektiv check in. Lækkert værelse og super badeværelse. Alting var i perfekt stand og rent overalt. Spa/pool er noget helt for sig selv, lækkert, rent og indbydende. En særlig ting - vi ankom meget sent i forhold til at nå et besøg i en af hotellets restauranter - det løste receptionen ved at booke bord til os ved ankomst og da vi kort efter fandt restauranten stod personalet klar til at hjælpe os, helt uden stress og selvom vi var de sidste gæster, fik vi slet ikke indtryk af at vi kom til besvær. Tak for det :-) Eneste ide til forbedring: Et par skilte udenfor til P-kælderen kunne være nyttigt og lidt bedre skiltning indenfor i det enorme hus ville gøre det lettere at finde vej. Men det er næsten ikke værd at nævne. Det er nok det bedste hotel, vi har prøvet gennem de mange år, hvor vi har rejst over hele verden. Tusind tak for to rigtig gode dage. Vi kommer helt sikkert tilbage.

clean as well as Beautiful

Luxury grand property, the grounds were superb. The area around the hotel had lovely restaurants which we tried. The bus stop and train station is literally 5 mins walk away. Our room was perfect, big plus was the penhaligon bath set provided. The spa area with swimming pool was used by us everyday after our extensions! All in all a very relaxing, much needed stay.
