We had a very good welcome when we arrived late due to a wedding we were attending. Quick and efficient check-in. Rooms were generally good, although the shower had signs of orange bacteria and some black mould on the ceiling. The bottom of the shower door and sealant around it was tatty and looked dirty, so much so that I didn’t want to use it. Breakfast was good, bit limited choice due to additional £5 charge for what you would expect to be on an ordinary hotel menu. Continental breakfast was ok-ish, bit limited. Price of breakfast was quite expensive. Staff were good, especially the ma. In charge. Overall, good, but still things that need sorting. Places like the premier inn have their breakfast sorted and we regularly stay there because of their good and reasonably priced breakfast.

We booked a deluxe room. The bedroom was fine but the bathroom was a huge let down. Mould in the shower tray and above on the ceiling. They had also had some sort of leak on the ceiling and it’s was mouldy and flaking paint! The bedroom was warm but the corridors, reception area and downstairs bar was cold, with additional electric fan heaters around - which didnt make much difference! As our stay was only one night, this was all very disappointing.

Arrived late at night and sign posting was dimly lit. check-in ok. carpets on way to hotel block were dirty. Room was very big but cold all through night. shower would not turn off. TV Channels very limited no 3 pin plug sockets at side of bed so had to charge phone in on other side of room. Ordered fish but no fish available, had to settle for very expensive burger which had a very hard bun base. Only coke available in small and very expensive 330ml glass bottle. Breakfast took its time being cooked and bacon was very fatty. Not happy really

We enjoyed our stay in the McDonald hill valley hotel. Bathroom needed redecorating. On arrival, we checked in, as we entered our room we actually walked in on someone in bed who was not at all happy understandably. Neither were we. Somehow we’d been allocated a room that had already been allocated to someone else. Very embarrassing situation. Staff were apologetic and we were offered an upgraded room. Other than that no other problems. The bed was very comfortable.

Hotel is cold in some communal areas, bedroom however was super warm and cosy. Generally the hotel is looking tired, that goes for the Spa too. The room, at first looked quite lavish until i got to the bathroom which was not only dirty but the workmanship was shocking. The bed linen was clean and the bed was super comfy. Choice of pillows. Food prices are soooo overpriced and quite frankly unreasonable, (we ordered off the bar menu). Breakfast offered plentiful choice, not all items were warm. Overall disappointing..

Pleasant stay but hotel could do with some TLC especially the bathroom. Layout of hotel odd. Lounge area could be nicer, feels hidden away.

Hill Valley never fails to disappoint!! Hotels.com refused to refund my money after I entered an incorrect date by error. This is totally IMMORAL. The hotel was virtually empty. My room was COLD on arrival. The TV did not work (wrong remote control left with TV!). No instructions on how to use the Nespresso machine. Chairs in bar restaurant were grubby. My meal was incorrectly described on the menu; some of the food was hot. Some was cold. And served on a cold plate! No condiments on the table. Sound system playing piped music was totally distorted. Needs replacing. Little things mean a lot in a 4* hotel. Hill Valley needs a major shake up and spruce up. It's a shame they have the virtual monopoly on hotel accommodation in the Whitchurch area. Premier Inn would be a better choice.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The property is looking a bit tired.

Hotel is a little tired and doesn’t meet the standards of excellence to which it aspires.

Well located for a business trip. Hotel getting quite tired and in need of refurbishment, although the hotels.com photos gave the impression of being very well maintained. Piped music system had a wiring issue meaning very annoying buzz/hiss accompanied breakfast/dinner/bar.

The staff at this hotel were exceptional. After trying to get a taxi without success and having an injured leg, the front desk staff arranged for one of the other members of the team to drive us to the train station. They went above and beyond and it was really appreciated.

Good gym, decent room, limited bar menu and didn't have a burger which was on the menu. A pricey pint also.

Lovely location, and hotel was in most cases in okay condition, some bits feeling a bit tired though. Staff were friendly, the pool was decent but the breakfast really let it down. Limited choice, slow service and many things requiring a 'top-up' payment and not included.

I booked this hotel again after staying last week & having a very comfortable bed. I am working & need a good nights sleep. Yesterday upon check in the bed looked unprofessionally made & upon getting in was very uncomfortable, without even a mattress cover.

Overall the stay was pleasant, mainly for the company we had for a wedding in the area. However, the room hadn't been cleaned, had urine over the toilet and bathroom floor. The night staff attempted to clean it but the bathroom still smelt so ended up cleaning it ourselves. The room itself could of done with a clean, dust and pubic hair was all over. Also, wouldn't advise the breakfast, £24 for a childs portion of average food, the continental section was limited, and didn't seem value for money.

The staff were excellent and offered high quality service, I felt like the property itself looks very old and outdated bar the new extension for the rooms. I also feel this is a Golf course 1st and Hotel and Spa second. Not bad for a night away especially if you are an older couple but younger couples may feel out of place. The spa was great and the rooms were comfortable with everything you need. The main building and restaurant lets it down. You will need to drive to eat in the evening, they have a restaurant but it’s expensive and you need to reserve a table. Not worth it in my opinion. I don’t regret my stay here but I probably wouldn’t stay again.

Lovely staff, Breakfast a bit overwhelmed on the Staurday morning, paid £18.00 for a continental Breakfast and there was hardly anything left on the tables, no bread, hardly any cold cuts. Could only have some Granola!!!. For £16.00 at the lounge bar a cafetier with coffee and two breakfast baps with egg sausages and bacon. More value for money than £24.00 for a cooked breakfast or £18.00 for a continental. All this was offset by the great service and lovely staff.

The lady on the reception wasn't the most helpful, but the staff in the restaurant and in the bar certainly made up for it. The steam room has tiles missing, but worked perfectly fine and the pool was a good temperature. If I was in the area I would stay here again

Needs updating, grounds were beautiful but difficult to get to as there are no cabs available from train station
