The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Two televisions. Could have stayed longer. Also we arrived early and asked if we could park the car in their carpark. They allowed this and it was no problem. This was a hugh plus for us.

Standard triple room in former Carlton Hotel block. Mould / brown dirt on ceiling above door. Bathroom has a floor tile that just lifted up in front of sink. Suspicious stains on throws and cushions. Bathroom black mould all over grout in bath. Bath panel peeling. Staff excellent but a terrible terrible hotel.

Room was a good size and clean as was bathroom. Would have been nice to have more tea & coffee and also toilet roll but we survived haha!!! Someone complained that we had the TV on too loudly which was quite random as we were only watching the curling in the olympics and ready to sleep by 10pm

Nice friendly place to stay with an excellent breakfast. Staff are lovely and helpful. Free parking is an advantage. Great area in jesmond, 20 mins walk into town or you can have a 5 minute walk to west jesmond metro station and easily commute into the centre of Newcastle or even continue to Tynemouth or the airport.

Room ok, bathroom great, staff spot on but building and room way too hot in March, noisy especially 6am deliveries to Waitrose and the doors to the rooms feel like the walls are going to collapse when they close!! Nice bed but shame we couldn't have a good night's sleep in it!!

We stayed in hotel across as we had a twin room. There was zero security as the keycard access was non-existent so anyone could (and did) just walk in off the street all the way upto the bedrooms. There was a massive fight right outside our bedroom with a loads of lads in the night. Terrible

Mould in the ceiling, no towel rails in the bathroom. Got put into a property across the street where finding our room was like an Orienteering exercise, our room number (500) did not show on any signs making it extremely difficult. There is no airconditioning and a window was locked shut which they claimed they hadn't known about. The sound didn't work on BBC1 TV, they said they'd send someone but after 1/2 hour wait we said it was too late to keep waiting. The only positives were the price and the room was quiet. I wouldn't want to repeat the experience.

Friendly staff, great room

2nd stay at The Cairn, but this time we were allocated a room in the Carlton building above the Sky Bar. The receptionist kindly offered to swap us to the main hotel but we thought we'd try the Carlton room for a change. The room was smaller than previous and had a fusty smell on first entering but all the bedding and towels were lovely and clean. The room was well equipped, including USB charging points and a fridge. As warned, the music from the Sky Bar was very loud but only until 11pm, so it didn't cause a problem for us, but guests may prefer to take earplugs if an earlier night is needed. It's in a great location, close to all the bars and restaurants of Jesmond. Nice to have use of free parking on site.
