Clean room but very basic, no furniture. Not even bedside tables. Car parking is good. Bar was fine not very friendly. 24 hour reception.

Very helpful and polite receptionist’s nice clean tidy room. Only one negative 2 members of staff were talking really loudly and smoking outside our open window at 6.30 am

The staff are really friendly and helpful, there’s a big car park and it’s in a great location. I wanted to say more positives but not sure I can. Breakfast is poor, portions are so small, they’d run out of loads of things, food was served still frozen and staff are super stressed and there clearly isn’t enough of them. The room is tiny. If two of you are staying with bags it’s really difficult and one of you is shuffling in a tiny gap to get in and out of bed. No bed side tables and no plugs on one side of the bed so if you charge your phone it’s by the kettle. The shower had clearly been leaking for a very long time and nothing had been done about it. Minor point but hotel send you a postcode to use the day before check in. Which takes you to a barrier you can’t get through. So definitely research how to get in before you arrive. A shame as it could be so good with a few small changes and hopefully they’ll happen over time.

We stayed for 2 nights as travelling from Bristol to attend an important wedding in Newbury. Chose this hotel as had good reviews for the price. Unfortunately, the room and the overall stay fell short of expectation. Perhaps it was our particular room that let it down, but the room was small. No bedside tables, no plug sockets either side of the bed. The bathroom was tiny and incredibly unclean. During our first night, I had the worst shower I’ve ever had. The shower tray constantly blocked and brought up loads of scum and hair which was disgusting. I tried to phone down to reception a total of 5 times - 4 from the hotel phone, once from my mobile. Eventually someone called me back and said they would be up to sort the issue but 2 hours went by and nobody appeared. Breakfast was also disappointing - small portions, staff very over stretched and we felt like a nuisance. Perhaps someone phoned it sick or didn’t turn up for work and I know that’s not the remaining staff member’s fault, but their demeanour and mannerisms was far from a positive start to the day.

We had a lovely stay at the Lodge. The staff were warm, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was good value and good quality. The bar had three screens to watch sporting events. The room was clean and comfortable. No fridge but tea/coffee facilities. The only issue was the lack of soundproofing in the room. It is noisy if the other rooms watch loud tv. Could the hotel get a quote for soundproofing the walls?

Very friendly staff who did not mind us being a few minutes late checking out. Parking very easy but found it difficult to get to the location as sat nav took us down a road with a barrier but soon sorted. Only slight problem was we only had one large towel but as we were late checking out did not have time to request another. Would recommend this for a stay

Once I arrived and went to my room I remembered that I wasn’t going to stay here again and I’d booked in for 2 nights. Reception area is clean and tidy, looks almost elegant but when you pass through the door into the accommodation area it’s like you’re in another building. Battered walls with paint flaking off. Carpets not vacuumed so there were small pieces of paper or flaked paint on the floor. Carpets just generally dirty and stained. Bedroom pretty standard, heating by way of a radiator but no way of cooling the room, only a pedestal fan which blows the warm air around. I had to take the TV control down to reception to have it cleaned as the amount of screm between the buttons was disgusting, couldn’t even see the black plastic in some places as it was that thick. Unsure what this dirt comprised of. So the receptionist bless her sat there with antibacterial spray and a cloth cleaning it for me while I had a meal. She couldn’t believe how dirty it was as the cloth kept being dirty after rewiping it. Restaurant food appears to be a microwave job. Chilli con carne tasted good enough though.

With temperatures in the 30's it would be nice to make it clear that this hotel has NO air conditioning.. The rooms had soaked the heat all day, and it took till the early hours for it to cool enough to actually sleep. As others have said, the rooms are on the small side, but the bed is substantial enough and it was reasonably comfortable., The bathroom was clean (tho a little paint peeling, but nothing major) Unfortunately I would not want to stay again, maybe in the winter the rooms would be ok.. but definitely not during the summer.

Perhaps it is not standard in the UK, but a mini fridge is what I am used to. I had some food items that I ended up throwing out because it was so hot and the was no fridge. At that price point it should be included.

The lodge is very convenient for Newbury or Reading as you can hop on the train at the racecourse station.

Hotel was fine. Just a flying visit so could really rate the staff or facilities properly. Only an average review due to lack of air con. Room was fine and had a fan but was super warm and the open window didn't help at all

Needs investment desperately. Bathroom in really poor condition, the hottest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. In 2026 air conditioning is a necessity for a hotel.

Clean and nicely decorated room. However no ac so was unbearable in this current heat wave. Would have thought a modern building would have in place. There was a fan but limited ventilation in room.

Great value for Money hotel in central Newbury with free parking. Rooms are small but the bed was big and v comfy. Grateful for the fan as no air conditioning

Bed was comfortable and breakfast very nice. Negatives - no air con on a very hot day/night and shower problematic. Couldn’t avoid getting hair wet, shower head too high to adjust and no soap in dispenser. Otherwise all good.

The food was very poor and so was the service

Great place for a stopover. Very comfy, very reasonably priced.

we are very thankful that we were upgraded from rm 20 to rm 35. Rm 20 has a king size bed but no room for luggage. One aggravation: having to rejoin the free network every 8 hours. Why?
