Picture-perfect Icelandic countryside retreat Hotel Lækur was one of the highlights of our time in Southern Iceland. This charming, family-run hotel is set in a postcard-perfect location, just 10 km from Hella, making it an ideal base for exploring the region’s waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches, and other natural wonders. We stayed in one of the bright yellow cabins, which was warm, cosy, and exceptionally well insulated from the Icelandic weather. It featured comfortable beds, a small lounge area, and a well-appointed bathroom—everything we needed after a day of adventure. The main house has a welcoming restaurant where the family and staff serve delicious, home-cooked meals with genuine Icelandic hospitality. Their warmth and friendliness made us feel right at home. If you’re looking for a peaceful, authentic place to stay while exploring Southern Iceland, I highly recommend Hotel Lækur. We loved this hotel! The setting was amazing. We booked the 2 bedroom cottage with a river view. After checking in, we walked around the hotel where we walked over bridges, watched the sheep and hung out next to the horses. We enjoyed the lamb curry and the chicken tagliatelle for dinner, which was on site at the hotel. The breakfast was delicious, too! Close to waterfalls. The staff was very friendly as well. Would definitely recommend.

There were 3 of us in a room. The room was neat and clean. My back was bothering me so I went in the hot tub which was surprisingly very warm. Perfect! The property is beautiful with a stream and bridge nearby. The employees were all very nice. Would high recommend!

This was a wonderful home base for us for a few nights as we explored the South Coast and Golden Circle. Now I'm dreaming of coming back for the Northern Lights. The Hotel was lovely - we stayed in the rooms (not one of the cabins). They were simple and had everything we needed. We had breakfast both mornings of our stay - it was delicious. And dinner one evening - and learned we needed to book that ahead so they knew their headcount for the evening meal. The property was gorgeous - we made friends with an Icelandic horse as we strolled behind the restaurant.

Hotel Laekur was an incredibly beautiful, relaxing place to stay. We stayed in a cabin for 4, which was warm and comfortable, with a serene view. The breakfast was delicious and hearty, and the staff were so kind. We all loved how peaceful the place was, would love to return - especially for the Northern Lights, which we missed but would be spectacular in this settlng. Highly recommend!

The room was basic and very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good.

Breakfast menu was ok, not great. The rooms were very cute and very comfortable. Staff was very nice. Would stay again.

very sweet place. we were a family of 9 and stayed in 2 large cabins. breakfast was wonderful. dinner was also great. we saw the northern lights just as in the photos!

Clean room. Nice breakfast. Pretty location. Staff was nice. Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night a couple of times and staff was no where to be seen for what felt like a long time. It was faulty not a fire. It was a bit frustrating at 3am. Nothing was mentioned the next morning. I would think a discount would have been given or an apology but nothing.

Great home cooked meal. Owners kids are great running the front of the house!

Beautiful views! We went in hopes to experience the aurora borealis (we had two nights previous luckily) even in their absence this place lacked no picturest moments. Horses in the field 10m away, the moon rising, and a peaceful time spent in the hot tub and sauna were beyond my hopes.. safe and friendly

Will definitely come back! The location is great for stargazing and watching aurora. Access to hot tub with the cold plunge was perfect. Great selection of breakfast!

We loved our stay! The property was absolutely beautiful, the rooms were wonderful and the breakfast was amazing! I’m celiac and dairy free and there were many great choices : fresh fruit, gluten free crackers, eggs, veggies, oat milk. I So appreciated the effort they put in to accommodate people with dietary restrictions. Thank you!

This is the kind of place you want to stay at when you stay in Iceland. Cabin near a running lake, gorgeous views and Icelandic horses to pet. Very comfortable cabin for 4 with beautiful views from the large glass windows. Do not miss out on this place. Its very close to Seljalandsfoss. Highly recommend it, you will not regret it.
