I honestly cannot tell you what a hidden gem this place is. It blew our mind. We came to go to a nearby wedding so kind of booked it without really looking and OMG what a treat. Firstly everyone’s so nice, staff / locals cannot do enough for you which is such a rare thing these days. The rooms are outstanding, cleanest place I’ve stayed and the breakfast is probably the best breakfast I’ve ever had. We will deffo be back - such incredible value too. My biggest recommendation I’ve ever made

Need to urgently review emergency protocols, there was no numbers to contact anyone at night.

Excellent apart from 2 points, the bath plug didn't fit so we couldn't have a bath and the neighbouring room decided they would have a full scale row at 12 a.m, maybe part of the wedding reception guests from that evening maybe but all in all, we would definitely stay again.

I can honestly say everything was perfect with the room, it was beautiful, clean, all the amenities you needed was there, front of house was well mannered and polite when we arrived. I had requested for room to be decorated alittle special as it was our anniversary, and my request was granted so if you do want to stay somewhere and make it special always ask they are happy to help. Only one slight problem with the room is the noise level from other rooms, you were able to hear walking around, flushing of chain, water running,wasn’t a major issue but it did wake us up earlier than we wanted. We had an evening meal there, unfortunately my only negative that they had ran out of a starter i was looking forward to trying. I feel maybe a few more options would of been nice on the menu. We forgot to pay for breakfast on the morning so unfortunately we can’t comment on that. The staff in the bar were friendly and chatty which was nice. We have said we would love to stay here again.

We loved the room. The huge bath in particular being a highlight! Would definitely recommend this stay to others. We stayed here when visiting Beamish museum. It's hard to get much closer!

Stayed in thee Holly room and it was amazing

The room was beautifully decorated and very clean and comfortable. The tray with tea and coffee and bottled water and cookies was very welcome. We booked dinner and the steak pie was exceptional and the service was good. Breakfast was also very good and it was lovely to sit in the pretty conservatory. We are happy to recommend this hotel and definitely would return ourselves

My wife and I stayed at the Black Horse for a night as we were visiting Beamish Museum. Check in was easy and we were shown to our room by the lady on reception which was a nice touch. Almost immediately after settling into the room we noticed a persistent knocking noise which sounded like it was possibly the water pipes or heating system but it was really distracting and frankly annoying after a while. We ignored it as best we could but sadly it wasn’t easy to relax. There was a dead wasp by the bath, quite a lot of dust on the shower head which clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly in a while as well as toothpaste stains in the sink. The following morning at breakfast we ordered eggs Benedict and eggs and salmon on toast. Sadly they were lukewarm at best which was strange as there was barely anyone else in the restaurant so wasn’t overly busy. When we went to check out we handed our key back to one of the waitresses as reception wasn’t manned and wasn’t asked how our stay was, maybe only a small gripe but things like that go a long way. Sadly overall we felt a bit disappointed with our stay
