Quiet and clean! Great for nice dinner or a cold one on the balcony. Great for golf, if that's your thing!

We are not golfers, but found this hotel an excellent, though expensive, place to stay. It had lots of amenities to appeal to non golfers and was in an excellent location with very helpful staff. A car is essential to stay here. The breakfast was very good, as I am sure was the dinner. However we chose not to have dinner as there didn't appear to be much plain food on the menu. Although it may have been possible to ask for this, we felt the price being asked reflected the complexity of the menu, and plain food would not have been value for money.

If you are looking for a place to stay on Islay that offers a comfortable and beautiful setting, complimented by great food and friendly and helpful staff, look no further. The rooms were wonderfully furnished and the attention to detail throughout the property was evident at every turn. The grounds, in particular the walk to the beach, were well done and drew us in for regular strolls. Didn't play golf this time, but have in the past . . . highly recommended. All told, five wonderful days.

The hotel was very comfortable with relaxed luxury. The food was good and the service excellent. Great golf course. Highly recommended.

Lovely place and great staff

Great hotel, great staff, great food, and really great golf. Stayed at The Machrie for my 60th Birthday, mainly to play the golf course, but also as a base to explore Islay. We’ve stayed in many hotels - this was one of the best experiences we’ve had. My wife suffers from Coeliac Disease so has to have a strict gluten free diet. Staff were knowledgeable, identifying what dishes she could have and she wasn’t ill all week. The food is also of a high standard. We brought our Black Labrador, who was very much welcomed, and whilst we had to eat in the lounge, this was still a nice environment. We had a really nice room with plenty of space and easy access to the outside. It was well designed, clean and had everything we needed. The hotel has a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Much of this is down to the staff, who without exception were friendly and very helpful - whether fitting us in for dinner, providing biscuits for our dog, or arranging golf they went out of their way to help. Which brings me on to the golf course. The Machrie is a high quality course and definitely worth the trip to get there. Despite some interesting weather it was in great condition, it’s fair but challenging (particularly when the wind blows), with some great holes, many with complex greens so even if you hit the green, there’s plenty of work still to do. Great fun and if you’re lucky to play in the sun, a very memorable experience. Would highly recommend.

Amazing golf course!!! Very scenic

The hotel is beautiful and very comfortable. However, I wish the staff told us during checkin that breakfast was included. We also had the room serviced on day 1, but not day 2. And the room lock malfunctioned on day 2, meaning one of us had to always be in the room.

it’s a nice boutique hotel but the rooms are cozy and not too bad. Also, the hotel is very close to the airport but middle of nowhere. If you have to take a taxi service to Bowmore, which is the town center, for meals, It will cost 40 poundsround-trip. The hotel has a restaurant on site but sort of limited menu if you have any kind of meal restrictions or limitations. It is also close to a beach and has a golf course. The beach is beautiful and such a nice walk from the hotel.

Lovely property, we were so sad to only have one night. All the staff was friendly and helpful. The fireplaces on a cold evening were wonderful

The perfectly planned and staged room and the amenities plus the gorgeous views - omg! I am so glad I chose the Machrie. The staff did everything to make our stay memorable and perfect!

the property did welcome pets however the room we were given was below standard ,the window leaked badly from the storm Amy and the noise coming from it was horrendous. thankfully reception managed to put us in a suitable room, the staff on reception were excellent .the golf course was excellent but very disappointed that there was no drying room after a severe soaking from the inclement weather i would have thought that such a prestigious course as the Machrie would have suitable drying facilities the meals were excellent.
