The heater was not working in the first day, under -2 temperature in the winter. The staff should test the facilities in advance, considering such a classic, high-end, quality hotel.

Underwhelming...staff hardly acknowledged me the whole stay. Rooms are dated. The upside is it is central which is the strongest reason to stay at the Scotsman.

My daughter and I spent 2 nights at the Scotsman. It is a lovely hotel very close to the Royal Mile and just over the bridge from the train station. A great location. The hotel is beautiful and iconic. The carpets in the hallway seemed a bit worn, but our room was very spacious and comfortable. The staff was helpful, and the hotel had everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again.

The room is beautiful

The hotel is in the middle of a renovation which should have been disclosed at the time of reservation. The hallway carpets were dirty and there was a tray with room service food where the food had been tracked down the hallway. The first room we were given had a terrible sewer gas smell coming from the bathroom which I am sure was related to the construction going on in the street outside the building. We were then moved to a room on the 8th floor except the elevator only went as far as the 7th floor, so you had to climb 2 sets of stairs to reach the room......not ideal when you are carrying heavy luggage. The room itself was spacious however the furnishings looked tired, and everything needed a refresh. The service in the restaurants was very slow despite being half empty. All in all, we were very disappointed because the hotel itself in in a great location. I would not stay here again and by the way the rooms were over $500 a night.

we had room 502 which was a large room with four or five different windows looking in different directions. It was wonderful! The staff was consistently helpful and friendly and we highly recommend this hotel.

Scotsman Hotel in Edinburgh. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome—especially Amelia, who went above and beyond to make our experience fantastic. Every staff member we met was kind and thoughtful. The breakfast was delicious, and the accommodations were incredibly comfortable—light, airy, beautifully decorated, and just perfect for relaxing. We genuinely felt at home, and it’s clear that the team cares about creating a special experience. I can’t wait to return, and I highly recommend it!

Mold in bathrooms on second floor rooms. Mold growing on the ceiling of the shower and terrible carpet stains. Not the quality I was expecting.

The hotel's location is unbeatable for walking from old town to the new town. One elevator was not working so we had to take an elevator to the 7th floor then walk up to the 8th floor to our room via the stairs. The morning was tough to get an elevator due to the cleaning staff. Overall, a great location, nice room and friendly staff. I probably would stay here again just for the charm despite the minor conveniences.

Staff go above and beyond to help you. Nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant was amazing with great food and atmosphere The hotel couldn’t be in a better position for the city. Picture perfect for the old town

Staff was lovely, however, I paid extra to upgrade to a suite only to be located in what looked like an extension of the hotel. Hallway carpets appeared dirty, doors severely battered. Also room 103 appears to have been possibly two rooms previously as the bedroom door had an electronic keypad on it of which our room key did not work on it so you could not close the door completely otherwise you would not be able to get back in. And leaving it open intruded on the space to get to the left side of the bed. The view or looked at the train station however it was very quiet and you could not hear the noise from the station or the street. Bonus, you’re extremely close to the train station!

Great hotel in perfect location. Breakfast was lovely and we also had a great meal at the Grand Cafe.

Location was perfect. Staff was friendly.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Wonderful Stay at The Scotsman We absolutely loved our stay at The Scotsman. The hotel was spotless, beautifully maintained, and incredibly comfortable. The staff were exceptional—welcoming, friendly, and genuinely helpful, which made our first trip to Scotland feel even more special. We also felt very secure throughout our stay. The hotel has a reassuring atmosphere, and everything from the building to the room access felt safe and well managed. The location couldn’t have been better. We had easy access to all the major attractions, restaurants, and sights, which made exploring Edinburgh effortless. We would highly recommend The Scotsman to anyone visiting the area. If we return to Scotland, we’ll definitely hope to stay here again.
