The property has great character and the potential to offer a great stay. However with the ‘spa’ being separate and an eye watering £50 for 3 or 4 hours I decided to decline this option (and leave it to the Hen Parties). The rest of the hotel is honestly a bit tired and if you end up in the annexe at the back then good luck with the noise from guests talking loudly, toilet flushing and OH. MY. GOD. The peakocks. Squawking today STARTED at 4am and carried on hourly until 9.30. If I had a gun I’d have finished them off after 4hrs sleep. AWFUL!

Absolutely beautiful, very accommodating for us with the truck in their car park.

So let’s begin. The hotel is in a beautiful location and has stunning views. The spa is very basic and is not as I expected. There is very little in the way of loungers outside so that not everyone there can have one. Other guests at the spa leave towels etc on loungers then go off for food or to hotel so that nobody can use them. Also not enough seats that are comfortable new sat on a brick wall to enjoy our drinks. The pool outside was hot like a bath and it was 28 degrees why would anyone want to be that hot. Asked for refund as spent an hour got 25% back waste of time and money would not return to the spa. Now onto the hotel. It’s a beautiful building and has some amazing features but these would have been nice when it was opened and new but now it’s been left to deteriorate and now looks very dated. The room we stayed in was so so hot it was like an oven with no air con and no fan. There was a broken fan outside our room so brought it in and used it (no cover on blades) it worked but had very little effect The bathroom was shoddy and had large amounts of grout missing from the tiles it was dirty and unhygienic. It was too hot to sleep. We ordered hot drinks from the bar that was a joke also the cup had someone’s lip stick on it so hadn’t been cleaned. Only redeeming part of the stay was the breakfast and even that was worse than premier inn. I would not stay here ever again and if your reading this I don’t often review things in such length but would take heed.

Lots of random staircases where it is easy to get lost as the signs aren't very clear and the lift didn't work that went to the floor I was on. Room was nice, large fan in the wardrobe which was lovely for the hot nights. Room was generally quiet but right above the wedding venue garden so music was quite loud till quiet late. Bed was comfortable and towels cosy. Breakfast had a lot to choose from and even though it was very busy, items were topped up and replaced before they ran out and a good selection of everything. Staff were friendly and helpful. Grounds have beautiful views. Lovely luxury treat.

Disappointing vs a stay there in the past. Helpful reception staff but appalling service in the dining room at breakfast - inattentive, rude, didn’t clear multiple tables whilst just wondering around. Breakfast was cheap - juice in paper cups!! The whole hotel is in near of a refurb/ love and attention. Our room was shabby, sink was cracked and rusty plug hole. No aircon - so hot in room, so very poor nights sleep.

Such a grand place, but interior needs sorting out, its become very tatty. Great surroundings, nice leisure facilities, rooms comfortable but very run down, awful shower no power.

The spa and pool was love, we realkt enjoyed it, but we had no kettle in our room we walked to reception and asked for one, I offered to collect it and take it back but they saud no a member of staff will bring it , we never received it, so couldn't have any drinks in our room, room was clean but dated , but on the whole we enjoyed it, breakfast was great

We had a lovely stay

The hotel is in beautiful surroundings with peacocks roaming free, unfortunately the peacocks make noise throughout the night and woke me up twice each night. Not ideal when coupled with noise from the courtyard bar until midnight. Room was very chintzy with a plasma TV, decor tired and in need of an update. This was the same throughout the hotel, decor in need of a revamp. The hotel is not the cheapest and I would expect more modern up to date decor for the prices charged. If you need a good WiFi signal you will only get this if you have a room in the main building. I initially had a room towards the back of the hotel and needed to stay in contact with family and very patchy signal so I was thankful that staff moved me into the main building where WiFi is perfect. I would only stay there again if it was a room facing the golf course, no peacocks and no noise from the bar !!!

Absolutely great place to stay. Lots of activities. Very nice and accommodating to us. Somehow, it was a misunderstanding on our end about the pool: it was a separate transaction and wasn’t included in the deal. They were so kind that they changed the date and gave us a different one so they could accommodate us as well. Cannot recommend this place enough.

I really liked my stay - it was a last minute booking and a really good deal. Room was very comfortable and staff exceptionally friendly and helpful - especially Emma at Reception. Breakfast was a huge choice and good quality and staff very helpful. I will go back and next time make sure to use the pool facilities and do some local walks!

We unfortunately had an issue with the cleanliness of the room,it was reported and even said, tomorrow would be fine as it was late Sunday evening and did not want to put anyone out, and guess what! nothing happened, we did not prompt again as that’s not us, we got on with it as didn’t want the negative to ruin our break. Apart from the person it was reported to and the cleaning person who prepared our room, everything else was very good, great staff, good breakfast, great atmosphere in the bar, spa was very good, infinity pool nice and hot, cocktails in the rain excellent. Would we return????? The price we paid puts it as maybe, unfortunately the room was disappointing, dark worn decor with a door key that had to be reset every day of our 3 day break was manageable , but there are no excuses for lack of cleanliness.

Stunning location and history with real vibe and period authenticity, great buffet breakfast, thoroughly enjoyed 3 night visit, probably requires a bit of TLC within a few structural areas, but no reflection on staff or housekeeping they were 5*.. access to walk within a wooded area is provided and very pleasant, but walk around the grounds i.e golf course is prohibited, bit of a shame as there are allocated paths, for golfers, but suppose understandable to stop residents having a general ramble with saftey consequnces in mind.... local walks are provided and recommend a morning stroll up to white nancy, there are footpaths on country roads...turn left on exit from hotel drive

It’s pretty in need of tlc. The rooms are a bit run down, ours was dusty too. Carpets throughout the property are a bit grubby. The staff in the bar beyond one guy were pretty useless. We had to ask where our food was and the waitress who took our order went to go find out, only to come and said she didn’t know (?!). We came for a stopover between destinations and I’m glad we weren’t here to relax and use the spa, we’d have been disappointed for the price.

Don’t wish to return to this venue

We stayed at Shrigley Hall and had a mixed but generally enjoyable experience. The infinity pool, evening (dusk) setting, and massage were all excellent highlights of the stay. The hotel is in a beautiful location and the bathroom in our room was very nice. However, the room itself felt quite basic and lacked comfortable seating, and it was quite a long walk from the main hotel. There was also no phone in the room, which was an issue as we couldn’t contact reception about a missing door lock. Overall, some great facilities and experiences, but a few areas that could be improved.

Spa ok prob not worth £60each. Main bar and restaurant needs a good lick of paint and bar looks like a gritty pub, carpets need a good clean. Some Nice rooms in building then lots of bad ones, corridors to rooms were smelly and in poor condition

While the Hotel is in a super location it is in need of updating. There was no drawers in the room to put clothes in and room157 had water dripping from a light fitting in the bathroom. This has obviously happened for some time as there was staining on that part of the ceiling. I reported this to reception as we checked out. There was no lu brush and we had to ask for another toilet roll as only one half used was provided. The food was average. Not somewhere we would stay again
