Friendly and helpful reception staff, spacious and clean room, great facilities with a choice of eating locations and a 24 hour bar.

The Hotel was stunning and in the perfect location for exploring Valletta and getting the ferry across to Sliema……. We will definitely be back.

Room was clean, facilities were good and the staff were, in the main, courteous.

Whilst the staffs were nice and friendly and the free shuttle service from hotel to city gate was a big plus, the actual room is looking bit tired, which mark down the hotel.

We've stayed at the Grand Excelsior 3 times in the last decade, and although the hotel is spotless, and the common areas are maintained to a very high level-Its time for the hotel furnishings could to be updated. With the influx of modern and renovated hotels within the city of Valetta, the hotel needs to renovate its rooms and bring them into the twenty first century.

Room was tidy but VERY tired especially the bathroom. Stains in bath. Staff mostly friendly.

Il menù della colazione era vario ma senza glutine e lattosio non c’era alcuna offerta. Dolce niente, salato quasi tutto era contaminato o comunque molto grasso e pesante e speziato. Ho avuto solo pane surgelato e yogurt. Il ristorante dell’hotel idem, ho vomitato tutta la notte dopo aver provato il buffet. In generale l’hotel puzzava di cucinato e spezie , insostenibile. Il letto in compenso era Comodissimo e la camera molto spaziosa ma davvero datata negli arredi. Sembrava di stare negli anni 90. La piscina bella ma fredda per i miei gusti e senza personale a fornire asciugamani o assistenza di alcun tipo, nel complesso una potenziale bellissima struttura ma un po abbandonata e poca cura al cliente. Cibo scadente, odori insostenibile e aspetto scadente, a parte le decorazioni natalizie

The hotel is considered to be 5 star. I would give it 4. Overall the room was clean, but dated and the carpet could do with a good cleaning. Service adequate but not overly attentive and certainly not 5 star. The maid would arrive every morning knocking at the door at 8:30am to clean. We commented to reception that was too early and they just shrugged their shoulders and seemed indifferent. On the upside, the location is very good and views over to Sliema are beautiful. It's just a quick walk into Valletta.

The hotel should be rated at maximum 4 stars and not 5.

Das Hotel liegt hervorragend – etwa 5–10 Minuten vom Stadttor Vallettas entfernt. Die Einrichtung wirkt jedoch in die Jahre gekommen. Die Poolanlage ist ansprechend, der Privatstrand dagegen klein. Im November habe ich beides nicht genutzt. Der Innenpoolbereich hat wenig Atmosphäre, und der Whirlpool war zu kalt. Das Zimmer war groß, aber ebenfalls älter, inklusive Duschvorhang im Bad. Teppich im Zimmer und im Restaurantbereich ist für mich kein Vorteil. Sehr positiv: Das Reinigungspersonal kam mehrmals täglich und war ausgesprochen freundlich. Schwerwiegender Kritikpunkt: Die Rezeption arbeitet extrem langsam. Bei der späten Anreise musste ich 25 Minuten auf meinen Schlüssel warten, und auch der Checkout zog sich unnötig. Für ein 5-Sterne-Hotel ist das untragbar und rechtfertigt eigentlich einen deutlichen Sterneabzug. Das Frühstück war dagegen ausgezeichnet. Frische Omeletts und Pancakes, große Auswahl von türkisch bis amerikanisch. Ein klarer Minuspunkt bleibt der Kaffee: nur Filterkaffee, Cappuccino nur gegen Aufpreis und geschmacklich kein Fortschritt. Insgesamt stark in Lage und Frühstück, aber mit deutlichen Schwächen im Service und im Zimmerstandard.

The Grand Hotel Excelsior is a lovely property with a charming, old–style atmosphere, even though it was only completed in 2007. The classic aesthetic gives it a warm, elegant feel. My room was very spacious, and the view was genuinely beautiful — definitely a highlight of the stay. I also loved the spa; it was relaxing, well-kept, and a great addition to the overall experience. The convenient beach access is another major plus, making it easy to enjoy without any hassle. While keeping the old charm, some amenities, however, feel a bit outdated. The automatic room lights, elevator security system, and bath amenities could use a more modern, functional refresh to match today’s standards. Still, the overall comfort, character, and excellent location make this hotel a very enjoyable place to stay. With a little updating, it could easily elevate its already pleasant experience.

Staff readily available, clean, comfortable room. No room upgrade offered despite Expedia Status.

Large, highend, hotel was clean , well located with restaurant and bar. Big indoor pool and small gym. Also has spa. Highly recommend
