Excellent location for Valletta
Some areas need improving
The ocean bar restaurant lacked atmosphere and the staff seemed new untrained and lacking knowledge
The tiki bar was much better although menu limited
The pool bar was ok and staff helpful but seemed disorganised sometimes with the drinks delivery to the pool and where you were sitting with a table number system that needs reviewing

Brilliant stay. Friendly and welcoming staff at all levels ready to assist and help. Enjoyed stay very much. Used hotel to arrange private transfer to and from hotel. Arrived on time and cost was on par with normal taxi cost. Breakfast selection wide and varied. Beautiful pool and private beach.

For a five star hotel it was disappointing. First the positives… the pool, and pool area was wonderful and spacious. The buffet breakfast was nice with plenty of choices. That’s where it ends. The check-in was terrible. The clerk didn’t even smile or offer us a welcome drink as other guests were given. Despite it being a VIP Expedia hotel we were not offered an upgrade. We asked for an early check in and we were denied. We asked for a late check out and again, they said no. And we were never offered an upgrade. The room was very dated. Old carpet, old ugly bedspreads, dirty tile in the bathroom, and in desperate need of paint and repair around the property. We expected much more after paying over $300 Euro/ night. My advice is to look at other properties. I would guess many four star properties would be nicer

I would rate this hotel 4 out of 5 stars.
The Grand Hotel Excelsior offers everything you would expect from a five-star resort: indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a well-equipped fitness center, multiple restaurants and bars, and excellent amenities. The hotel is also spotless, very well maintained, and the staff is genuinely attentive and welcoming.
That said, the property feels frozen in the early 2010s and is due for a major renovation. The exterior showed significant peeling paint in several areas, some of the furniture was noticeably worn, and there were no power outlets near the beds, making it inconvenient to charge phones and other devices overnight. The lack of USB charging ports—other than on the television—was also disappointing for a hotel of this category.
Despite these shortcomings, the atmosphere and service made for a pleasant stay. I especially enjoyed the souvenir shop and appreciated that the hotel has a renowned pastry chef, which was reflected in the quality of the desserts. With some modernization, this hotel could once again fully live up to its five-star rating.

Very good breakfast, spacious deluxe room with good facilities and a balcony, many with a sea view. Spacious restaurants with good range of food and excellent serving staff. Pool facilities very good. Staff very helpful. Good location on coast and not too far from town centre.
Would have liked wider range of items on bar menu and restaurant menu near the pool in the evening.
Very good at arranging taxis from hotel but pick-up’s were less reliable.

Vor allem die Lage des Hotels ist fantastisch, unser grosses Zimmer mit grosser Terasse mit Blick über die Bucht hinüber zu den "Three Cities " war der Aufenthalt sehr wertvoll.
Wir haben die Zeit dort sehr genossen, auch im und am riesigen Swimmingpool war sehr schön.
Mit kurzen Bus Shuttle kurzer Weg in die City of Valletta.
Personal sehr gut, vor allem Room Service und Cleaning.
Frühstück Restaurant ok, aber sehr laut mit vielen Touristen. Das Essenangebot nur mittelmäßig.
Kaffee Qualität nicht sehr gut, extra Bestellung von Cappuccino oder Espresso kostet extra.
Positive: wenn man danach fragt bekommt man frischen Orangensaft.
Alles Andere an "Saft" ist gefärbten Wasser mit Zucker.
Aber alles in Allem Hotel 4 von 5 Sternen

Just had a lovely 8 night stay.
The good:
The pool was a lovely area and a great temperature. We always got sunbeds and there was a fair amount of shade. The food and drinks were good as was the service.
Breakfast was great - we went down in the advertised ‘busy time’ and always got a table and it never seemed too busy. The omelette and egg station was very good and there was always a good amount of smoked salmon.
Bar service in the Harbour View was also great.
The decor was classic and internally I felt it was grand but relaxing.
Rooms were big - as was our balcony. The housekeeping team did a super job.
Lovely location on the Harbour with great views. I’d prepared myself for the infamous steps and they really weren’t that bad!! Always walked in - never considered the shuttle.
The not so good:
Only one person at check in and we watched the people served before us given welcome drinks as they were being served. We were very thirsty and expected the same but drinks were never offered to us and then when we left the desk I saw the next people queuing behind us had drinks!
The exterior of the building does look a little tired but I understand there is a refurb starting in Feb 2027 for 18 months and it didn’t detract from our stay.
Overall I’d wholeheartedly recommend staying here 😁

The check in experience was disappointing. We arrived at around 6:20pm, even though check in starts at 3:00pm, and were told to wait around 30 minutes because the staff were on their break. In the end, we didn't get into our room until around 7:00pm, only to find out that our booking hadn't even been processed.
Other than that, it was quite a relaxing stay. However, I expected more attention to detail considering the price of the hotel. Simple things, like having a power socket next to the bed, were missing, which made the room less practical than it should have been.
The corridors were also being repainted during our stay, with a "Wet Paint" sign taped to the wall. It's not a major issue, but it doesn't reflect the level of quality you'd expect at this price point.
The air conditioning was another downside. The older system struggled to keep the room cool and didn't perform particularly well.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay, but there were several details that didn't justify the price or meet the standard I'd expect from a hotel in this price range.

The hotel was a bit run down and in need of some maintenance. Facilities were great as it had both pool and beach access as well as gym and spa. Conveniently located close to the old town and within walking distance of many nice restaurants and cafès. Not the most clean hotel, upon check-in our room had leftover bread in it and the daily cleaning was not really adhered to.

The check in process for same day (booked at 3pm at airport when Airbnb canceled same day due to property issues) was delayed until after 8pm. There were places to lounge while waiting but with jet lag it was not ideal.
The property itself was beautiful with a great breakfast buffet. We were able to walk to all the locations we wanted to visit.

The Hotel was dated. We had no air conditioning and tv for 2 days in our room. The staff did say we could move rooms but that was late at night 10.30 pm. Ive heard that it is going to be closed and updated at the end of the season. The Hotel is very central. the swimming pool was good. the outside pool was lovely but could have done with sun umbrellas as it was hot. The food in the restaurant was good in the evening.
