The room and facilities are old looking and small. Especially for the bathroom. But the beds are clean and tidy and provide car parking.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The condition of the room was extremely poor and absolutely not worth the price. What was most unacceptable was that the room I was given looked nothing like the photos shown on the booking website. Instead of a standard room on the main floors, I was placed in one of two attic rooms, which were dark, cramped, and completely unsuitable for use as hotel accommodation. The wardrobe was old, dirty, and poorly maintained, with doors that couldn’t close properly — one even secured with a makeshift bolt, which felt very unsafe. The bathroom was outdated and in terrible condition; water splashed everywhere while showering, and the showerhead was barely usable. The entire room felt run-down, with stained walls and a lack of basic comfort. This was a deeply disappointing experience. I will never return, and I strongly advise others to avoid this hotel.

I was quite disappointed upon entering the hotel foyer, and I thought to myself, gosh, it’s very tired. That said, when we entered our room, it was delightful. Everything was beautifully clean and there was so much space that we could just dump our stuff without even unpacking! The bedding was sumptuous and the bed itself was lovely and comfy. Hotels still insist on putting winter duvets on in summer though, so we were too warm at times! The bathroom was quirky but again, beautifully clean. The toilet seat didn’t fit correctly and as we were checking out, I brought it to the hotel receptionist’s attention and she said they’d sort it but I am quite sure that this issue must have been known about as it would have been cleaned before whilst in this position. The view from our window was absolutely stunning - right across Oban harbour and some islands could be seen in the distance. Just beautiful. We spent two nights in this amazingly situated hotel - a couple of hundred yards from the main town, but did not have reason to have any food so cannot comment about this. The gentleman behind the bar was really nice and we had a couple of drinks there on the first night. Prices were not extortionate.

Sadly this property does not live up to its name. Whilst the bed was clean, that was where the positive started and finished. This hotel is in dire need of updating, walls are tired and peeling. Windows do not seal, the extractor fan not only did not work but was incased in dust and the bath/shower was dangerous- filling up as you ran the shower without a plug in is a safety hazard and the residue that has built up leaves it extremely slippery. We were very disappointed and would not be inclined to recommend without some serious upgrading taking place.

Although it is obvious that there is major work needing done because the place is so run down But basic cleaning is missing Short staffed or it seemed at many times I don’t want to put a list but I easily could

I've stayed here twice, simply because it's the cheapest option before getting a ferry to Mull, but it's hugely overpriced for the experience. £40 would be overpriced. The building is falling apart, wallpaper peeling off, draughty windows, broken shower, and despite requesting a parking space twice in advance, due to the amount of luggage I had, I was ignored. It's a very noisy hotel, doors slamming, thin doors that exclude no noise. For a stop off, it would be ok for Travelodge prices, but for a holiday, steer clear. Up there with the nastiest hotels I've stayed in.

Wasn’t very pleased with the room we were given it had a view out onto a roof and there was a burst gutter on the roof and it was pouring with rain The room was badly needing decorated not like the last time we stayed Staff were pleasant A bit disappointed this time unfortunately

From the outside, the hotel looks fairly impressive and right by the water front. Inside, it went downhill as it was all extremely dated. The room was small and the bathroom very much had a 1980s style to it. In general, it was all clean. Our particular room had no real way to open the window by anything other than a tiny amount and the one on the bathroom didn't open at all, so you couldn't get any through draught. As a result, the room stayed rather warm - as we had arrived in the summer. The shower in the bathroom was difficult to use as it was a mixer tap, so every time you turned it on, you had to mess with mixing the hot and cold to get the right temperature. Not good. Breakfast, however was excellent with a very good choice of all sorts - even herbal tea (which had been an issue to find in other Scottish hotels). Very happy with the selection and even though there were a LOT of people, it was not chaotic at all. The location of the hotel was excellent. Not only was it directly on the waterfront, it was also only a few minute's walk into Oban itself, which was a real surprise for us, being lively and picturesque. There is limited parking on site and you have to pay £10 per day to use it, but the bay allocated is for your use only, so can leave and come back and know that your spot will still be there.

The room was nice. In the US the property would most likely be condemed. The walls were peeling apart. The floors in the halls were not solid, they r carpeted but the boards under shifted.

So the view from room 28 was excellent, having a large bay window to sit at night and very spacious newly refurbished room. Pity I couldnt say the same about the cleanliness of the room. When we arrived a plate was situated in the dresser draw, unsure what it was there for and there could be a valid reason, only the draw had someone else's hair still in it. The room was nicley set out, but was dissapointed to see the shelves had dust left and could clearly see where someone else suitcase had been. The bathroom was clean and to a good standard only the toilet seat moved every time you sat on it and clearly wasnt attched at both sides. Im sure this will get fixed. The bed was comfy but the pillows was too flat for me (personal preference), and would recommend asking for more pillows. We had a full cooked breakfast both mornings we stayed, which was lovely, so compliments to the chef. The staff was very nice and very helpful, especially Steve at the bar. He goes above and beyond to ensure you have an enjoyable stay and makes good recommendations for places to eat (if not booked for dinner) and places to visit. Parking onsite cost us £10 per night, so be aware when booking. We had booked for dinner one night, but was told they didnt respond our request so wasnt able to dine in the restaurant so we was a little dissapionted. I would say the hotel is correctly rated as a 3 star hotel.

Property was a bit dated, creaky floors throughout. Poor shower in our room, shower screen inadequate resulting to wet/puddle floor afterwards. Some of the staff not helpfull, on gluten free issues. Hotel very clean. With some rooms offering a great sea view. Parking is first come first served, cannot book in advance.

A once grand but tired old hotel that needs a full restoration to do it's wonderful location justice. Peeling paint from damp on the walls, loose floorboards, scaffolding at the rear window, paint chipped and worn thin on the doors, cheap woodchip wallpaper everywhere and corridors that feel more like a hostel than a hotel, but at hotel prices. I've seen this business model many times before on my travels. Extract maximum revenue for minimal outlay and the hotel continues to decay until it is long past being fit for purpose. A good business model does not a good hotel make, which is a shame. Good towels though. Helpful staff at the desk, clean linen and a wonderful view from the dirty front windows, which were screwed shut in the blistering summer heat (in Scotland!) of a room with no aircon. I hope I'm wrong and the old place gets it's full refit.

The breakfast was great. The bar had great beer and views.

There's unfortunately not a lot that's great about the Great Western. We booked because of the promise of parking, and there wasn't any. We were told it was all based on first come, first served, but every space was booked for a fee of £10 a night. We ended up parking in a public car park nearby (about 5-10 minutes walk) that was free after 6 pm, though tricky to get a space due to the busyness of the area. We brought our dog with us, and this is the first place we have ever had to sign a two-page contract where we had to commit to paying £50 (on top of the £20 per night fee) if there was evidence of our dog being on the furniture, making a noise, or any other infraction. This was reinforced by a poster in the old, creaky lift saying "there would be [undisclosed] consequences if a dog was found to be barking." Next to this poster was another warning about £100 fines for parking violations. Next to that was another about fees for leaving property behind: a £20 postage fee, but the hotel reserved the right to charge £50. All in all, not the most friendly environment, and it made us a little paranoid. The room was spacious with a nice view and comfortable bed, although it was hot, wasn't the cleanest and there was a lot of noise outside. The general condition of the room and property was pretty terrible. It feels like the place is falling apart around you. The barman was friendly. We were pleased when we left and delighted not to have incurred a fine. Would not recommend.

Great location directly on the seafront. We were there during the heat wave and the hotel is not well set up to accommodate with windows that barely open, no air con in rooms or bar, staff did give us a fan for room but was low power and could not combat the heat. Double bed was also very small

We stopped in a family room with a dog, the room was big, clean and a great base to explore No issues with the hotel particularly as the room was per friendly

There was a misunderstanding with the beds, the bed linen was not clean and the parking is limited. Nothing special, a bit dissapointed. After that I didn't wanted to try anything from the hotel, very sad.
