The room was clean and generally comfortable. The breakfast was excellent the evening meal at the bar was pretty good. Unfortunately, I was there on 2 of the hottest days the Rooms did not have adequate ventilation a couple of small fans provided did nothing to help. 2 nights of very hot sweaty non sleep.

It was the first Spa hotel I stayed in without a spa , I was trying to make a special evening thinking they would have spa facilities as advertised. To be told they are not available at the moment, I would of booked another hotel , had thru advertised correctly

Terrible hotel. Would avoid! Rang me on the day of check-in to say that the hotel was overbooked. I was then told that, as compensation for THEIR error, they would put me in a 'sister' hotel, which in fact looked like a 1970s pub and was not at all a like-for-like swap. Very unhelpful staff; offered absolutely no assistance in resolving any discrepancies, and had to escalate to Expedia to get anywhere.

Breakfast was good. A reasonable choice of cereals, juices, cold buffet and cooked options. Carpets were tired and seen better decades. TV balanced on old piece of furniture. Bolt it to the wall. Make the room bigger by getting rid of the unnecessary cabinet. 3 chairs in the room. But only a 2 person room. Clutter. Wardrobe to short to hang up a full length dress without it touching the dusty bottom. Denise the receptionist helped us change room from our first night sleeping in a ground floor room with a bed that was solid. No give in it. Not a good night's sleep (room 60) moved to 2nd floor for our next two nights (room 29) better bed, comfortable. Slept well, thank you. Shower in the bath. Slippery in first room. No non-slip surface. Old shower dials on wall but shower controlled through bath taps. Difficult to control temperature. Cold water pressure weak in both rooms. No swimming pool or spa available. We booked this establishment as it had a pool and spa in October 25. We only get told the spa and pool are indefinitely closed in May 26. If we had known this earlier we would have moved to another nearby spa establishment with pool that we have stayed at before.

Really disappointed with our stay. One of the main reasons we booked was for the swimming pool and spa facilities, but a few days after making the booking we were informed they wouldn’t be available. Unfortunately, because I hadn’t paid extra for the flexible cancellation option, I couldn’t cancel and get a refund. Lesson learned. I’d also be careful with the half-board option. We paid an extra £300 for two nights for a family of four, only to find an almost empty breakfast buffet one morning. I understand we weren’t the first ones there, but I would expect food to be replenished throughout the breakfast service. For dinner, we were given a £50 voucher, but then told it couldn’t be used for children’s meals. I still can’t work out how that represents good value considering what we paid. We also weren’t informed that Sunday dinner service finishes at 4pm, so after spending the day out, we came back and had missed it completely. I rarely complain or leave negative reviews, but this place really needs better management. After quite a bit of effort trying to find the right person to speak to, I requested a partial refund of £150, which was eventually granted. To be honest, I would have much preferred a stress-free weekend where the facilities and services matched what was advertised and expected.

Booked this hotel specifically for the swimming pool as I was travelling with my 5 year old who wanted to swim We were only made aware the swimming pools been closed for 3 months when we checked in and had to drive to a leisure centre 20 minutes away so he wasn’t disappointed. I expected the hotel to be dated so that was fine but there was rubbish in the bin when we got in our room and coat hangers on the lights. This was our second attempt getting into our room as the receptionist told us the wrong room number initially. Would’ve appreciated being told in advance about the pool closure.

Just before we arrived, I received a message to say the pool & spa were being refurbished, this was disappointing as it's the reason we booked over other hotels, but these things happen. On arrival we were told that there was a wedding and they were very busy with those guests. The room wasn't the cleanest, with cobwebs on the lamp & light fittings and one looked half hanging off, and I felt unable to request a fan after basically being told the wedding was their priority. We had paid half board so went off to dinner where there were tables with half eaten food around us and cupboard doors hanging open, to then be told, the meal I'd ordered had just run out.......on a menu of about 6 items. It was at this point, my husband jumped online and booked us in at IHG Holiday Inn Express Portsmouth and we checked out, not even being asked why.

One night stay for a family wedding that was held on site, the room was clean and very comfortable, the food provided for the wedding breakfast was well cooked and very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The building is a converted old country house and as such is a little tatty around the edges but this just adds to the charm.

The room was spotlessly clean on arrival and fresh smelling. The common areas were clean and well decorated.Strangely although there were 4 containers of shower gel, shampoo etc. there was no hand soap. As we were only staying one night we managed to get around this. The grounds were lovely but the outside of the back of the building has paint peeling. We had lunch which was decent and a good value. A couple of negative points. The pool and spa are closed until further notice. We were advised of this before our stay with a note saying that the pool and spa are complimentary elements so no refund or reduction is possible. Surely a hotel with Spa in it's name has this as central to the experience not a free extra? This didn't affect us personally as we didn't have time but is worth others being aware of if booking. We arrived back from an event about 11.15pm and would have liked a drink from the bar and some nibbles but were told by the person on reception that the bar closes at 11pm. With big events on locally it be good if it stayed open a bit later.Breakfast the next morning was very good with plenty of options available.
