I was delighted with the room which had a beautiful Sea view. We couldn’t use the balcony which was unsafe but that was okay, better to be safe! It was clean and very comfortable. Very friendly staff . The breakfast was fabulous! It was a busy time but although we didn’t get to breakfast until 9am we weren’t kept waiting and the staff did all they could to help us enjoy the plentiful and delicious breakfast selection. I’d definitely recommend and i would stay here again.

Don’t let the exterior of the building put you off. OK, it could do with a lick of paint outside (imagine that will be a costly job) but the interior is lovely with a grand entrance at reception. We paid more for a sea view and balcony and it was worth it for the spectacular views. The room had everything we needed and was much larger than expected. Breakfast was brilliant with loads of choice and all very tasty. The breakfast room also made good use of the views so it made it feel special. The harbour and shops were only a five minute walk down a small hill. We would definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay and we would go back. But the yacht club down the road played really loud music until about 10.07pm, Friday and Saturday night !!!! which ruined our relaxing weekend. Which was not the fault of the hotel. Breakfast was good, rooms were dated but clean. The views were excellent. Cold water pressure was low in our room. Enjoyed the pool and the steam room. And we found the staff all polite and very helpful.

This is a delightful hotel, located close to the harbour and sea front amenities. The cliff setting gives outstanding views over Torbay, with panoramic windows in the restaurant and the bar area enhancing the experience. The breakfasts have an enormous choice and the food in the bar and the restaurant is excellent. Despite being an old fashioned English grand hotel, it is modern in all respects, gives excellent service and is competitively priced. Though it is 160 years old, so probably takes a lot of maintenance, everything was good apart from a few creaky floorboards! The indoor swimming pool is very good, with a steam room and jacuzzi to enjoy as well. The outdoor pool was closed for repair. There is garage parking opposite the front entrance; there is also disabled parking alongside the entrance, for which no charge is made. I recommend the Imperial highly for its location, service and competitive prices.

Beautiful location with stunning views Really nice breakfast and lunch Sadly the bar did not stick Aperol or have a drinks menu, but staff super helpful Lovely room with amazing views but unusable balcony Spa facilities in need of TLC but actual treatments fantastic If only the owner would spend some money to restore the structure, out-door pool and outside of the building this would be a top hotel!

The hotel suite was sadly lacking in design attention and had no air conditioning. It requires full redecorating to match the finery in the public areas. The staff however were excellent- well done all of you. Breakfast was also lovely and plenty of it, staff remained calm and were professional under pressure at busy times.

Great location, but the hotel desperately needs updating. The staff were not very welcoming, they looked disinterested and not very helpful. Our room had an unpleasant smell when we walked in. The floorboards in the room above us constantly squeaked when people walked about which disturbed our sleep. The carpet throughout the hotel looked dirty with stains on it, which provided unpleasant and unwelcoming appearance. Garden and the plants were not maintained and looked very unkempt. Breakfast was not fresh. In my opinion, based on my stay, this doesn’t qualify to be a 4 star hotel and was not value for money.

Poorly maintained, good staff, breakfast ok, bedroom and outside space in awful disrepair! Carpets require replacement especially in room 28. It appears no maintenance has been carried out since our last stay in 2024. Smelly hotel, no needs money spent on it desperately, a real disappointment, would not return unfortunately

Have stayed here many times in the past and enjoyed it but this time was a real disappointment. Given a downstairs garden room the sea view was more or less non existent due to the unkempt garden. Room is very dated, definitely needs an upgrade. No bath robes in the room and unable to get reception to answer the phone. Visited reception twice before they were delivered to our room. Next time in Torquay will be looking for alternative accommodation sadly.

We did enjoy our stay at the Imperial, the breakfast was excellent. Very nice indoor pool with spa, it was a shame that the outside pool was not in use particularly during this very hot spell. My only complaint, and I should have mentioned this to reception, as soon as we entered the room there was an unpleasant smell of stale urine, I thought maybe that it could have been the bathroom but it was not. It turned out to be in the wardrobes. Our clothes did not smell very good after 4-5 days when we went home, some of the things that we took to wear that were not worn had to be washed again on our return, our clothes did not smell very nice when they were taken out of the case on our return. I am surprised that this was not picked up by the cleaning staff.

Outdoor pool has been out of action for some time, no mention of this on the web site... The hotel Is listed, as having indoor and out door pools which was one the reasons we pick it. The weather was fabulous and we were disappointed there was no out door pool facility...

A warm welcome, pleasant staff and a good breakfast choice, but the lift was out of order, the pool was out of use, the whole place looks VERY tired and I doubt if it has seen any paint this millenium. Definitely not worth £172 I paid for B&B!

Having stayed their 4 years ago this time we were disappointed as the outside pool was closed & apparently has been for over a year but not mentioning ot that on the booking. The hotel bar closed most nights by 10.30pm sometimes earlier. Restaurant service & food good but windows looked dirty & glazing had condensation in some of the pains. Probably wouldn't go back to this hotel myself as Torquay seems to have gone the same way Brixham & Paignton both seem to have more going on these days

Truthfully the hotel is very rundown and cleanliness is an issue. I stayed at this hotel 6 years ago and I enjoyed my stay, hence booking this time, although I wouldn't return. They need to either invest in the property or lower there prices I paid £230 for a 1 night seaview room with breakfast and it really wasn't worth the cost. The room was very dated, bed wasn't comfortable and breakfast mediocre at best. The windows need a clean in the main eating area and the lifts were not working during our stay. The staff however were amazing and friendly.
