I had a wonderful stay at Swiss-Belhotel Kuantan. The highlight of my stay was definitely the room balcony view overlooking the sea—it was so calming and beautiful, especially in the early morning. Waking up to catch the golden sunrise from the balcony was truly unforgettable. The view alone made the stay feel extra special and worth every moment. The breakfast spread was also massive, with plenty of choices to enjoy. Everything was well-prepared and satisfying, making it a great way to start the day. Overall, it was a relaxing and refreshing seaside getaway, perfect for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy a beautiful ocean view.

Stayed at Hyatt Regency Kuantan and had a pleasant experience. The room was clean and comfortable. Rizal was very friendly and helpful, and kindly allowed early check-in at around 3pm and late checkout at 1pm, which was very generous. The hotel explanation was clear, and the accessibility around the hotel was good. Overall, smooth process and great service.

More about hotels in Pahang

About Pahang accommodation

Pahang is Malaysia's biggest state and its most varied, running from cool hill stations up in the clouds to one of the oldest rainforests on the planet. It's the go-to weekend escape for people wanting a break from Kuala Lumpur's heat without getting on a plane, and it's just as easy to reach from Singapore. Three spots do most of the heavy lifting: Cameron Highlands, Genting Highlands, and Taman Negara.

Each one has its own personality and its own style of stay, from colonial-era hill lodges to big mountain resorts to simple chalets on the edge of the jungle. You could realistically fit two of the three into a longer trip, but each one is worth a dedicated stay rather than a rushed day visit. Here's how to pick the right base for your trip.

Where should you stay in Pahang?

  • Cameron Highlands: Malaysia's most famous hill station, around 1,500 metres up in the Titiwangsa Range. This is tea country. The BOH Tea Plantation is the biggest and oldest in Southeast Asia, and it's an easy stop for a cuppa with a view over the rows of green. Strawberry farms around Brinchang let you pick your own punnet, and most also run a small cafe if you'd rather sit down with a strawberry shortcake than pick your own. The Mossy Forest up near Gunung Brinchang is worth the trip for its cool mist and moss-draped trees, best visited early before the cloud rolls in. Stay here for the cooler climate and a slower pace, especially if you're travelling with kids or grandparents who want an easy few days without the heat.
  • Genting Highlands: A mountain resort town at 6,000 feet, reached by cable car from the base station. The Genting Skyway and Awana SkyWay both climb through cloud forest with big views on the way up, and the resort at the top has a full theme park along with malls, restaurants, and cool mountain air that makes a nice change from the lowland heat. Genting SkyWorlds is the newer of the two theme parks and covers nine different zones, so it's an easy full day out on its own without needing to leave the resort grounds at all. Stay here if you want a resort base with plenty to do without leaving the property, particularly if the trip includes teenagers or anyone who gets bored sitting still.
  • Kuala Tahan and Jerantut (Taman Negara gateway): These small towns sit at the edge of Taman Negara, widely considered one of the world's oldest rainforests. The main draws are the canopy walkway, one of the longest rope bridges through the jungle canopy anywhere, and slow river cruises along the Tembeling River past thick rainforest, where it's common to spot monkeys and birdlife from the boat. Stay here for a proper jungle base, either in a riverside chalet in one of the small towns or the one resort inside the park boundary itself, and expect a slower pace of life with fewer shops and no big-brand chains.

How much is Pahang accommodation?

Pahang covers a wide price range depending on altitude and location. Cameron Highlands and Jerantut both have solid budget options, while Genting Highlands and the resort inside Taman Negara sit a bit higher due to demand and limited supply.

  • Budget stays: From AU$15 per night. Simple guesthouses in Jerantut and Brinchang, and basic hostels around Kuala Tahan.
  • Mid-range hotels: From AU$35 per night. Comfortable rooms with hot water and heating in Cameron Highlands and Genting, usually a short walk or shuttle from the main attractions.
  • Hill and mountain resorts: From AU$70 per night. Bigger properties in Genting Highlands with pools, dining, and direct access to the theme park and cable car stations.
  • Rainforest resorts: From AU$90 per night. The lodge inside Taman Negara itself, or riverside chalets in Kuala Tahan, often priced with meals included given how remote the location is.

What are the best hotels in Pahang?

  • Copthorne Cameron Highlands: A highland retreat in Brinchang with misty mountain views and on-site dining. A reliable four-star pick close to the tea plantations and strawberry farms.
  • Equatorial Hill Resort By Copthorne: A cooler-climate resort in Cameron Highlands with easy access to the main tea estates. Good for families wanting space to spread out.
  • Resorts World Awana: Set lower on the mountain than the main Genting resort strip, with well-equipped rooms and easy access to the Awana SkyWay cable car station.
  • Grand Ion Delemen Hotel: Around an hour from Kuala Lumpur, with mountain views over the Titiwangsa Range from 6,000 feet up. Contemporary rooms with the amenities to match.
  • Mutiara Taman Negara: The only resort inside the national park boundary, in timber chalet style. Its tour desk arranges canopy walks and river trips straight from the front door.
  • Tekoma Resort Taman Negara: A riverside option in Kuala Tahan, handy for the jetty where the river cruises and canopy walkway boats depart.

Tips for finding the perfect accommodation in Pahang

  • Pick your base by what you want to do: Cameron Highlands for tea and cool air, Genting Highlands for the cable car and theme park, Kuala Tahan or Jerantut for the rainforest.
  • Pack layers: Both hill stations sit well above sea level and can get genuinely cold at night, which catches a lot of visitors from lowland Malaysia and Australia off guard.
  • Book ahead for weekends and school holidays: Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands both fill up fast when Kuala Lumpur locals head up the mountain to escape the heat.
  • Check your transfers: Genting is reached by cable car from Gohtong Jaya, and Taman Negara often means a boat transfer from Kuala Tembeling, so confirm how your hotel connects before you book.
  • Ask about meal packages in Taman Negara: Options near the park are limited, so many rainforest stays include breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the room rate rather than leaving you to find a restaurant.
  • Sort your activities before you arrive: Canopy walk slots, river cruises, and cable car tickets can all sell out on busy weekends, so booking through your hotel's tour desk a day or two ahead saves a wasted trip to the counter.
