The welcome felt like we were being investigated for something. She bombarded us with questions with barely a breath in-between, which would have felt more friendly if she smiled but she just looked fed-up, so it felt like an interrogation. If you're going to force staff to question guests please teach them how to be friendly, rather than them ticking a box. The lifts were the slowest I've ever experienced and the wait was longer because the cleaners were using them, so guests couldn't fit. The room was so hot - we tried to turn it down and nothing happened. We had a choice of two pillows, either too soft or too hard. I've honestly had more pleasant stays in the Travelodge.

Unfortunately, what was intended to be a relaxing family break in the city fell well below the standard we have come to expect from a Hilton hotel. Firstly, our room had no functioning temperature control. We were unable to adjust the heating or cooling, which made the room uncomfortable throughout the night. It was only the following morning that we noticed an alarm indicator showing there was a fault, which explains why the system was not responding. In addition, the television in our room had no signal and did not work at all. After settling our children to bed, my wife and I had hoped to relax and watch something together, but this was not possible due to the lack of service. This was particularly disappointing as it limited our ability to unwind during our stay. To make matters worse, our room was located at the furthest point from reception, and in the morning the lift was out of service. As we were travelling with two young children and multiple suitcases, we were forced to carry everything up several flights of stairs. This was extremely inconvenient and stressful, especially with young children in tow. Overall, the experience did not reflect the quality or comfort we associate with Hilton. What should have been an enjoyable and relaxing stay did not turn out that way, and we do not feel that we received value for money. Given the issues outlined above, we believe a 50% refund of our stay would be a fair and reasonable resolution.
