The hotel greets you with warmth and hospitality from the moment you walk through the door. Staff extremely courteous and responsive. Horizon Lounge was a quiet oasis to relax and enjoy drinks and food. Free parking was an added bonus when it’s common to pay $50 a day or more at many premium hotels.

This property isn’t up to par with other 5 star hotels. Surprising for a Shangri-la brand, but our experience was average at best. The rooms are extremely dated, the service is just fine (no welcome drinks or towels during check-in), and the AC was noisy. The saving grace was their breakfast and pool.

The expectations were pretty high considering the brand name - but unfortunately, aside from specifically the concierge service, I wasn’t impressed. It’s well located, and lots of things to do and visit within walking distance. The rooms (5th floor) are pretty outdated and there was a serious moldy smell for the first 4 days (which took daily complaining to eventually get it fixed). The pool grounds are nice and spacious, but (I assume) the amount of beds can’t hold full occupancy of the hotel. The breakfast is nice and offers wide varieties. The lobby restaurant menu (specially for vegetarians) isn’t too impressive.

The experience at Shangri-La was very disappointing. The receptionist did not exercise discretion when he insisted that I pay for breakfast for my child, even though I explained that it was pre-ordered. He sent me to check with Expedia. It was right that the receptionist would exercise discretion, even though it was not possible for me to book rooms for 5 people with breakfast and only four would be given the opportunity to eat. I felt embarrassed. Only after I took out the booking confirmation from Expedia did he agree to accept my claims. I have been to several Shangri-La hotels, but I have never had such a disappointing experience. I feel that the hotel, the maintenance and the staff are very tired and unhelpful.

Dear friends The joy of my first trip to Chiang Mai is still there, but it's already been almost a month. I'm a team leader in a service industry. I was already looking forward to Shangri-La's strict service because I had experience using Cebu Shangri-La, but the Shangri-La I felt this time was the best. The kindness and consideration of Ms. Piano, the lobby, and the front staff, who were lounge duty, touched me as well and made me feel all comfortable in the hotel. Everyone in my team listens to my love and praise in Chiang Mai and everyone is preparing for the trip to Chiang Mai. Shangri-La was the best and the most meaningful place in Chiang Mai. Thank you again for my daughter's dainty birthday cake and all the moments that gave her joy. Even if I visit Chiang Mai again, I will definitely choose Shangri-La. Thank you.

Amazing . Travelled with my 5 year old son. This was our second stay at the same hotel In less than six months . And the staff was amazing. They made sure the big teddy bear was kept in our room even before we checked in. A speacial mention for Mr Rak ( at the reception) and Rudy who made sure they recommended places to visit and things to do with our son. Our flight was late in the day and even the extended late check out was done with ease. We were absolutely happy with our stay ( relaxing and comfortable). I would highly recommend the place to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. It’s perfectly located too so easy to commute to any restaurant and places via grab.

The property itself is very nice. However, my encountered with the check in staff was not pleasant. I was upset that I was forced to pay extra for my daughter. I had indicated 4 people for the reservation, but the staff forced me to pay extra because my daughter was considered an adult since she’s over 12 years old. I was offered 2 options, pay $150 for the extra person or $250 for a room upgrade. Also, the staff didn’t care to offer complimentary breakfast for my 10 year old son even when we have 3 paying adults with free breakfast. The guy wanted me to pay $30 extra if we want breakfast for my son. All in all, I didn’t feel the staff was welcoming, helpful or kind. I just felt like how much more money we can squeeze out of you.

Ni and the team made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside. We had multiple check-ins throughout our stay and little surprises for the kids. We LOVED the pool - the slide is super fun. And the breakfast buffet was great - all staff we interacted with were absolute angels! Lovely property but the staff really set this place apart. Well done team!

Overall the staff, service, amenities, spa, kid activities and in-hotel restaurants were wonderful. The only complaints might be around the air conditioning usually in the morning. Being on the top floor paying for a premium service/room I would have expected comfort level of temperatures throughout the floor and elevator at any time of day. Hotter temperatures kind of ruin the experience if you sweat on the way down to the club lounge for breakfast right after taking a shower.
