Wonderful hotel!

Our room was on a SW corner by the elevator and indoor fire escape stairwell. We could hear people on the stairs, thankfully it was not while we were trying to sleep as it was right at the head of the bed. We had to turn the thermostat up to 78 to have the room feel a comfortable 70 (yes it was in F). This made our first night a little chilly while we worked this out. There were no extra blankets in the room and the king mattress was more like a futon than a mattress. Or south facing window had a wonderful view of the city included the top half of the CN tower. However cold air could be felt from the baseboards under the window. Check in had to be done at the counter and we thankfully were a day ahead of the major crowds causing long line ups for elevators. Check out was quick and easy once you actually made it to the lobby. Elevators were not all functioning and stairs don’t exit to the lobby, they go outside. Guests were waiting upwards of 15 minutes to even get on an elevator going up 32 floors to then spend 10 minutes going up and all the down again. Guests became so frustrated they overloaded one of the 4 working elevators thus taking it off line as well and requiring Toronto EMS to come out to rescue those stuck on it. At least the EMS vehicles didn’t jam up up the driveway the way shuttles and patrons had the night we checked in. Staff was wonderfully accommodating and managed to make up for the many potentially negative experiences. Pool and sauna were lovely.

Visited the Toronto downtown Hilton as an overnight getaway. The location is great. Walking distance to many restaurants. We were on the 27th floor so the view of the city was stellar. We were pretty disappointed with our room, however. It was tired and needed a refresh. Some plugs were coming out of the wall. The shower head was broken. There was a phone that wasn’t connected. We brought our own wine and called down to bring a couple wine glasses up and they said to call back at 5 when room service opens. There was one glass in the room so we drank wine out of paper coffee cups. Overall not the level of service we expected from the Hilton.
