General Check-in Instructions

1) Effective from June 1, 2014, the City Council of Penang will impose a Local Council Tax of MYR 3 per room per night for 4 and 5-star hotels, and MYR 2 per room per night for 0 to 3-star hotels. The star rating will be in accordance to the rating from Local Council and should the rating differ from the website, the local council rating will apply. This fee is being included in Hotel's Room Rate. 2) With effect from 01 September 2017, with reference to the Law of Malaysia Act 791, Tourism Act 2017, hotel guests who are non-Malaysian or non-Permanent Resident of Malaysia, are committed to a Tourism Tax of MYR 10.00 nett per room night of stay as determined and imposed by the Malaysian Government, which is not included in the reservation and will be collected by the hotel upon check in. This is to be applied in-addition to existing fees/taxes levied and the existing local tourism fee in Penang. 3) Abiding by the Government Movement Control Order’s SOP, the Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Spa and certain Food and Beverage outlets unfortunately will not be made available during your stay until further notice.

Disappointing stay. Property is definitely trading on its history and is in dire need of updating. Room issues were not addressed and breakfast was so poor that we went out instead. Assistant manager called once and then never followed up. Would not stay again and wouldn't recommend.

I recently stayed at the E&O Penang and overall had a very good experience. The room itself was exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well kept. I needed a few extra items like towels, and although I had to ask, the staff responded quickly and efficiently, which I really appreciated. One area that could be improved is the food offering. The room service menu is quite limited, especially late at night. Arriving back at the hotel around 11:30pm to find the bars and restaurants closed left very few options, which was a little disappointing for a hotel of this standard. Some of the common areas, particularly around the pool and outdoor spaces, are starting to show their age and could benefit from a refresh. It would also be great to see more variety in the food choices across the hotel, especially more local Asian options. Overall, though, it’s a solid 4 out of 5 stay — classic, comfortable, and with excellent service when needed. With a few updates and broader dining options, it could easily reach a 5.

A delightful step back into the charm of traveling in the past. Like Raffles in Singapore, this hotel will bring you back to the time when travel felt like living abroad. Our room was beautiful, a suite opening up onto the garden next to the waters edge. The room is beyond comfortable and quiet, a beautiful experience. The hotel staff is helpful and friendly, the hotel itself is quiet and spacious. The breakfast is delicious, we had one of the best Nasi Gorengs here. Overall, a highly recommended place to stay in George Town.
