This UNESCO World Heritage architectural wonder was constructed more then 2,500 years ago to protect the Chinese from fierce northern tribes. The Mutianyu Great Wall is beautifully surrounded by dense woods and rich pastures that change colors with the seasons. According to researchers, General Xu Da constructed and completed Mutianyu from the ruins of the previous wall, built during the Qi dynasty under the supervision of the early Ming emperors. The Great Wall at Mutianyu has a unique style, with densely concentrated watch towers, strategically situated in mountain passes, and with crenellations on both sides of the wall.
