Bus Company (PO) Sugeng Rahayu is known as one of the legendary buses from East Java. The bus operator that has been established since 1981 in Sidoarjo offers economy class, economy AC (commonly called AC Tarif Biasa or ATB), and executive to reach various cities in Java Island. Setyaki Sasongko started pioneering Sugeng Rahayu in 1981. At that time, this bus operator was present with the name Sumber Kencono. The routes served were only regular Intercity Interprovincial (AKAP) routes such as Surabaya - Yogyakarta round trip (p.p), Wonogiri - Solo - Surabaya round trip (p.p), and Semarang - Solo - Surabaya round trip (p.p).

Sheltered under the Sumber Group, Sugeng Rahayu is now known as the "king of the road". This nickname was given because of the characteristic of this bus which always speeds up to reach its destination. This is what then became a selling point and attracted public interest in using Sugeng Rahayu's services.

This selling point also made Sugeng Rahayu continue to grow. This can be seen from the achievement of several achievements, such as the best service award as the organizer of Lebaran transportation in 2005, 2007, and 2008. In addition, the company was also selected as the best bus in terms of administrative completeness of the Purabaya Terminal (Bungurasih) Surabaya in 2010 and 2011, and received the title of Polite Bus 2011 from the East Java Regional Police.

At the beginning of its establishment, this Bus Company (PO) strengthened its position as a player in the land transportation business by acquiring Maju Mapan. The new routes presented are Surabaya - Semarang round trip (p.p), Surabaya - Cilacap round trip (p.p), to Surabaya - Bandung round trip (p.p). Its users are increasingly pampered with the presence of economy and executive classes with a fleet of Mercedes-Benz and Hino buses, which depart every 20 minutes. Not only that, the bus facilities are also increasingly adequate. In the executive class, passengers will get a 2-2 seat configuration, LCD TV, air conditioning (AC), and one meal service. While the economy class comes without AC and has a 2-2 seat configuration.

In order to continue operating amidst the tight competition in the world of land transportation, Sugeng Rahayu presented a breakthrough through the Regular Tariff (ATB) AC class or economy AC in 2009. This class has a 2-3 seat configuration and is equipped with air conditioning (AC). Adequate facilities with the same rates as non-AC buses are the main attraction for passengers who want to take long trips.

Even so, Sugeng Rahayu has also experienced difficult times and was almost threatened with bankruptcy. However, thanks to its experience and efforts to continue to improve service and safety, Sugeng Rahayu was able to rise from adversity. This made the PO decide to change its name to Sumber Selamat in 2011, which was expected to bring good fortune and safety.

The new name lasted for a year until it finally returned to Sugeng Rahayu. In Javanese, Sugeng Rahayu means safe, prosperous, and far from disaster. In addition to the name, there was also a change in the use of colors to red and yellow.

Now, Sugeng Rahayu is headquartered at Jl. Letjen Sutoyo No. 145, Medaeng, Sidoarjo, Surabaya.
