The National Monument, or "MONAS," is a prominent landmark and symbol of Jakarta. Standing 132 meters tall and covering an area of 80 hectares, this monument was established as a tribute to Indonesia's history. Its distinctive feature is the flame-shaped top covered in gold leaf, symbolizing a burning fire. Inside the National Monument, various rooms detail Indonesia's history. The Historical Relief Room portrays Indonesia's journey from Dutch colonial rule through its struggle for independence to the present era. The Independence Room houses the national symbols and the Indonesian Proclamation manuscript, displayed in a glass case and protected by a gold-plated gate. Visitors can use elevators to get to the top of Monas and use binoculars to enjoy panoramic views of Jakarta. The National Monument park also offers a range of entertainment options. Visitors can explore food stalls, ride traditional horse-drawn carriages (delman), and enjoy a market during midday. Located in a strategic government area, the National Monument is close to other notable sites like the Presidential Palace. It is an ideal destination for families, providing a pleasant afternoon experience amidst Jakarta's vibrant atmosphere.
