Dubai, UAE, 3 November 2022 – Emirates today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Southeast Asia’s leading travel and lifestyle platform, Traveloka, to accelerate the region's tourism industry recovery, enhance the brands’ cooperation and establish the grounds for a strategic partnership. The MoU was signed by Orhan Abbas, Emirates’ Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations – Far East, and Iko Putera, CEO of Transport, Traveloka, and took place in Traveloka Campus, Indonesia.

The partnership will help Emirates’ flights be more visible and accessible to travelers in key Asian markets including Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Under this MoU, both parties will also collaborate on joint activities and marketing campaigns.

According to the “Travel & Tourism Economic Impact” report, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to be the first to recover by 2023 with the amount of travel revenue contributing to the overall economy forecasted to grow by 71% to reach nearly US$ 2.7 trillion – supported by the return of international visitors and continued revitalisation of domestic spending as governments in the region rescind pandemic-related restrictions on travel. Malaysia, Japan, and Australia are some of the countries that are anticipated to experience a large resurgence in the arrivals of international visitors. As such, the sector is estimated to return to the 2019 level by the end of 2023.

Southeast Asia has always been a strategic market for Emirates and the airline reaffirms that through its multiple partnerships that it had initiated over the years. In 2021, Emirates signed a Memorandum of Commitment (MoC) with Indonesia’s Tourism Board, pledging its support in promoting tourism and trade into the archipelago. The new MoUwith Southeast Asia’s leading travel and lifestyle platform, Traveloka, is one more step that reaffirms Emirates’ solid partnership with the market which has hit the three-decade milestone this year. Emirates currently operates 14 weekly flights to Jakarta and 12 weekly flights to Bali operated by a Boeing 777 aircraft.
